Hello friends and welcome to the 09-09-09 edition of This Day In Rock. Sept. 9 is the 252nd day of the year (2 + 5 +2) this kind of fun date of repeating numbers wont happen again for 100 years- 01-01-2101. Yes my mind is full of useless information!!! Many cultures consider this date to be a lucky one. So go forth and buy your lottery tickets and do what ever you need luck in because today is supposed to be your lucky day! Now lets take that walk down musical memory lane!


On this day in 1956 Elvis Presley appeared for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show. He would appear a total of three times. on this appearance Ed Sullivan himself was not there because he was recovering from a car accident that nearly killed him. Elvis played four songs in this order; "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me Tender", "Ready Teddy", And "Hound Dog" "Love Me Tender" Had not yet been released and was an instant hit.

 

In 1957 "Diana" By Paul Anka was number one on the charts.

On this day in1967 the song "Soul Man" by Sam & Dave is released where it rises to #4 on the charts.

The record "Imagine" by John Lennon is released on this day in1971. It would become a worldwide hit.

On this day in 1972 "Witchy Woman" Is released By The Eagles. The song will make it to number nine on the charts.

On this day in 1975 Paul McCartney's band Wings starts a worldwide tour.

In 1978 The Album "Beast Of Burden" By The Rolling Stones Is released.

On this day in 1992 The MTV Video Music Awards Awarded "Best Male Video" To Eric Clapton For the song "Tears in Heaven"
