Being Bad With The Last Vegas

Being Bad With The Last Vegas

When The Last Vegas made their way through Denver I couldn't pass up the opportunity to speak to the band who beat out over 8,000 contestants in Guitar Centers On-stage contest. The CD that followed highly impressed me with it's catchy lyrics and screaming guitar solos. They recently topped iTunes critics' 2009 "Rock Singles of the Year List" with their hit single "I'm Bad." The Last Vegas are an incredible band live. Chad Cherry is an amazing frontman and I encourage you to check them out if they come through your town and don't forget to pick up the CD..."Whatever Gets You Off" UMM HMM

Yoko Ono Lennon, Quincy Jones and Others Keep John Lennon’s Legacy Alive

By Sat, Jan 02, 2010

Yoko Ono Lennon, Quincy Jones and Others Keep John Lennon’s Legacy Alive

WHAT: Yoko Ono Lennon keeps John’s legacy alive by kicking off 2010 with a press conference at NAMM, the international music products association, supporting music education in celebration of Lennon’s 70th birthday. Quincy Jones and a host of other celebrities will speak out on the importance of music education on behalf of American youth. Students from South Central Los Angeles’ Fernando Pullum Performing Arts School will perform a medley of Lennon songs with Rickey Minor, the musical director of American Idol, Jackson Browne and Fishbone. Yoko is utilizing this year to celebrate John’s legacy and is showing her continued support of music education and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, which gives students across the country free hands-on access to music and the digital arts.

WHO: Yoko Ono Lennon, Quincy Jones, Jackson Browne, Fishbone, Rickey Minor, Joe Lamond, CEO of NAMM, Brian Rothschild, Executive Director, The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, Fernando Pullum, Principal of the Fernando Pullum Performing Arts School and his students.

WHEN: Thursday, January 14th

1:30pm

WHERE: NAMM Show

Wanna Play?/Lennon Bus Stage at the Arena Plaza

                Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA

WHY: As Yoko says,The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is a non-profit outreach program with the mission of giving kids a chance to express themselves through music and video productions. It has been a living legacy to John’s passion for musical expression and artistic freedom. By utilizing the on-the-road John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and its fine studio set-up, thousands of students have written, recorded and produced original songs and videos – students who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to explore these avenues of creativity. At a time with music education in the schools is facing tough funding challenges, the Bus has been a rolling testament to the enduring, positive power of music making.”

The students from the Fernando Pullum Performing Arts School are a shining example of what music education can do. In an area of Los Angeles where only 30% of students graduate from high school, 100% of Fernando’s students graduate from high school, and 99% have gone on to college. To learn how to keep music in your local community, go to www.supportmusic.com, a non-profit outreach initiative of the NAMM Foundation.

This Day InRock

Hello friends and welcome to This Day In Rock. It is Tuesday and if your Monday was anything like mine you are most likely happy today is here!! It is cold in my neck of the woods and if it's hot where you are please send me some of that heat! Enough small talk, let's take that walk down musical memory lane.

On this day in 1956 Buddy Holly and his band The Two Tones Wet To Decca Records in Nashville & began recording their first record.

On this day in 1963 The Four Seasons released the song "Walk Like A Man" It would soon be a #1 Hit for them.

In 1974 Ringo Starr revisited & Remade the 1960 Johnny Brunette hit "Your Sixteen" Ringo got help on this song from former band mate Paul McCartney.

On This day in 1980 Prince made his first TV appearance on American Bandstand.

On this day in 2007 Michael Jackson quietly returned to the United States after Living abroad for 2 years. He had left the country to escape the after effects of his highly publicized Child molestation trial.

Well friends that's all for today! Until tomorrow...

65amps Introduces The Tupelo 20-Watt 6V6 Guitar Amp

By Fri, Jan 22, 2010

65amps Introduces The Tupelo 20-Watt 6V6 Guitar Amp

65amps is pleased to introduce the Tupelo, a breakthrough amplifier rooted in the same lost designs as its brother, the popular 65amps “Lil Elvis,” but based on a 6V6 power section. The Tupelo’s unique circuitry and custom transformers create a platform that reveals the true character of the power tubes to a surprising level. The 6V6 power section produces an outstanding example of American circuitry from the late fifties through the mid-sixties while at the same time removing all the bad behaviors of those old amps. The Tupelo is a must for players whose ears are tuned to American circuits and sounds.

The super-versatile Tupelo delivers surprising power in a compact, 20-Watt amp and features an astonishing vocabulary, touch sensitivity, and harmonic richness. Its lush, soulful clean tone easily rolls over into harmonically complex distortion, offering the best of both worlds to players of all music genres. Loaded with 65amps’ proprietary Master Voltage power technology, which keeps the entire vocabulary, authority, and response down to 2 or 3 Watts, the Tupelo sounds and feels right at any volume, from bedroom to coffee house to small clubs. The Tupelo particularly shines as a tonally and harmonically flexible studio amp.

The Tupelo also features a passive FX Loop, two speaker outs, 65amps’s unique bias tremolo and of course . . . rich tone for days!

65amps was conceived in 2004 when partners Dan Boul and guitarist Peter Stroud created a custom amp for Peter to use on stage with Sheryl Crow. Today 65amps’ range of guitar and bass amplifiers delivers surprising power at low volume, amazingly versatile tone and meticulous, road-worthy craftsmanship. You’ll find 65amps on stage and in the studio with a wide variety of players including Richie Sambora, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, Peter Frampton, and many more.

65amps Tupelo list price: Combo - $2,295 or Head - $1,850

Daisy Rock Girl Guitars Honored with Prestigious “Best in Show” Award at the 2010 NAMM Show
Starting the New Year commemorating the company’s 10-year anniversary, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, the original girl-guitar company, has the girl guitar revolution in full force as the company receives the prestigious industry “Best in Show” award during the 2010 NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA on January 17, 2010.

“It’s such a huge honor to be named ‘Best in Show’ at NAMM. The industry support Daisy Rock has received is just breathtaking and I think that’s because Daisy Rock is about so much more than just guitars; Daisy Rock is about empowering girls and I think that passion is contagious. Without the embracement we received from the music store dealers, our partners, and all the wonderful artists, Daisy Rock would not be experiencing such amazing growth and success!” Daisy Rock Founder and President, Tish Ciravolo continued, “For the past 10 years, all I have wanted to do is help more girls play guitar and enjoy music, and I am excited to continue doing that for another 10 years and beyond!”

The past 10 years has brought Founder and President of Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, Tish Ciravolo, museum inductions, numerous awards, motivational speeches to millions of girls, and much more—on top of rocking stages all over the country and most importantly, being a mother of two.

In 2000 forging a new and unique path in a heavily male-dominated industry, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars emerged and made an immediate impression on the industry. Ciravolo stated, “The guitar industry acknowledged the change, and the music store dealer gladly accepted a new customer. And the artists believed in the passion and understood the mission.”

Now available in 26 countries, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars continues to seek new ways to reach females around the world and support their dreams of playing guitar. A leading sponsor of girl rock camps throughout the world, Daisy Rock is proud to help more girls play guitar by donating instruments to the camps, which have grown exponentially over the last 10 years. Daisy Rock has helped over 150,000 girls play guitars during the last decade. Ciravolo commented, “A decade of Daisy’s, and we’ve only just begun.”

The “Best in Show” awards, a celebrated prominent honor at NAMM, are part of NAMM University and hosted by Music, Inc. magazine. Award recipients are selected by a panel of industry judges attending the year’s show.

Daisy Rock Girl Guitars offers a complete line of quality girl guitars designed to look and sound great, and to fit the female form. For more info and to find a dealer near you, visit daisyrock.com now!

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA LAUNCHES TWENTY-TEN

By Thu, Jan 21, 2010

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA LAUNCHES TWENTY-TEN

The Devil Wears Prada, whose blistering signature sound combined with a Biblical brutality has made them "the next big thing," according to Absolute Punk, will join Killswitch Engage on their Winter U.S. tour as direct support beginning Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts. Sweden's Dark Tranquility will open on all dates, and the tour will keep the threesome on the road over a six-week-plus period.

The Devil Wears Prada - vocalist Mike Hranica, guitarist/vocalist Jeremy DePoyster, guitarist Chris Rubey, bassist Andy Trick, keyboardist James Baney, and Daniel Williams on drums - is touring in support of their critically-acclaimed CD, With Roots Above and Branches Below (Ferret Records), which was released May 5, 2009. Two-thousand nine has proven to be a breakthrough year for the young Christian metalcore band that has developed a mainstream buzz and secular cred. Beginning with a 43-date, completely sold out headline tour this past Spring, TDWP went on to a Main Stage slot on the Vans Warped Tour, and is currently co-headlining (with All that Remains) the 27-date Napalm & Noise tour, which wraps up December 21 in Allentown, PA. Over the past few months, TDWP also found themselves on the covers of Outburn, Alternative Press, HM and AMP, to name a few, and covers for at least two other national music magazines are set for early next year.

Live, the six-piece The Devil Wears Prada presents a powerful intensity that many other metalcore bands never quite achieve, with savage riffs, bulldozing guitar, thunderous beats, manic synths, and an assault of abrasive vocals. On this tour, the band will perform songs from all three of their releases - 2006's Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord, 2007's Plagues, and the new With Roots Above and Branches Below, including the video track, "Danger: Wildman," which can be viewed here <http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=61465450> .

DROWNING POOL TO JOIN SEVENDUST ON UPCOMING TOUR

By Thu, Jan 21, 2010

DROWNING POOL TO JOIN SEVENDUST ON UPCOMING TOUR

All American Anthemic rockers, Drowning Pool will be joining Sevendust on an upcoming tour throughout the mid-south and northwest regions in the US. The trek begins on February 18 at The Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge, LA. Tickets go on sale this Saturday and Sunday with Kansas City, MO going on sale January 29 (please see tour dates below for specific ticket on sales). Tickets can be purchased at www.drowningpool.com

Perseverance is the name of the game for Drowning Pool. After the untimely death of their first singer and the loss of a second, the Texas-based rockers have been solidifying the band with today’s release of their new single “Feel Like I Do” off of their self-titled CD, along with the accompanying video. The song follows their biggest single, "37 Stitches," and is the culmination of more than 2 years of relentless touring. Their fourth album, set for an April release, is the band’s first consecutive disc with the same lead singer and sees these four rock n' roll survivors cranking out fist-pumping, rock anthems. The single’s hook could ignite a mosh pit or a football stadium.

It's time to raise your hands and feel like Drowning Pool do…

DROWNING POOL is: Ryan McCombs-vocals, CJ Pierce-guitar, Stevie Benton-bass and Mike Luce-drums.

GLOBALSTOR PREVIEWS LATEST iTRAX AT WINTER NAMM 2010

GLOBALSTOR PREVIEWS LATEST iTRAX AT WINTER NAMM 2010

Globalstor® Data Corporation, a premier OEM integrator of high-performance RAID, SAN and storage/video servers, is previewing the latest version of its iTrax portable audio file storage device at Winter NAMM 2010. Offering sound professionals multi-user access to consolidated, centralized and fully searchable data, the new version of iTrax operates over a standard LAN or WAN network and comes in a highly portable “lunchbox”-style casing.

The latest version of iTrax is ideal for ProTools and similar audio post environments, where storage space on mixing and recording gear is often at a premium. Equipped with a solid-state 64-bit iSCSI and NAS operating system, it utilizes an iSCSI initiator to appear as a local disc drive on any computer connected to the LAN or WAN. Once the user plugs it into a networked device and the iSCSI initiators are loaded, every host system on the network can see and share all stored data. Engineers on separate workstations can simultaneously edit and mix different sessions stored on any iTrax server.

“The latest version of iTrax, like its predecessor, is designed to address the storage challenges of today’s digital recording and mixing environments,” says Scott Leif, president, Globalstor. “In many facilities, the computers and equipment are already tied up with ProTools and other cards, so there is no room for a fiber channel port or similar device. With iTrax, the user simply plugs it into the system, and they have all the benefits of an additional hard drive without taking up space.”

With iTrax, audio professionals have centralized storage and retrieval of multiple sessions at their fingertips. In addition, users can remotely log into sessions from anywhere in the world using any Internet Protocol-based GUI.

The new version of iTrax comprises a standalone tower with a handle, and includes five drives with optional RAID 5 redundancy. Storage capacity ranges from 2.5 TB to 10 TB (five-drive unit). Other iTrax servers are available in various configurations, ranging from an eight-drive solution with RAID protection on board to a 36-drive version with multiple levels of RAID redundancy on board. Among the high-profile music companies using iTrax include Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA), which has employed a 16-drive solution with two independent RAID controllers on board to accommodate the label group’s multiple projects and operators.

Blue Microphones Unveils en•CORE 300

Blue Microphones Unveils en•CORE 300

Blue Microphones, a leading innovator in microphone technology and
design, announces their flagship live stage vocal microphone, the en•CORE 300. This new high-end mic
follows the successful September 2009 launch of the en•CORE 100 dynamic and en•CORE 200 active
dynamic mics and contains the latest proprietary Blue technology with a unique look sure to enhance any
performance.

The en•CORE 300 is built upon Blue’s heritage of crafting top studio microphones, which begins with a custom-tuned
condenser capsule. This proprietary capsule is mounted on a rubber suspension system and coupled with a matched,
phantom powered preamp circuit. The result is vocal clarity and vibrancy with consistent tone and low noise,
regardless of the cable length on stage.

"The en•CORE 300 is the next best thing to bringing our top studio mics on stage,” said John Maier, CEO of Blue
Microphones. “When the recording session ends, singers can now enjoy the same Blue sound they get in the studio,
gig after gig."

In traditional Blue style, the en•CORE 300 has a unique look all its own, but the design serves more than just
aesthetics. en•CORE’s Arched Airways are comfortable to grip while maximizing air volume in the capsule chamber,
reducing the harsh or unpleasant sound quality often resulting from gripping the microphone at different locations.
Allowing more ‘open air’ or volume that surrounds the top and bottom of the capsule reduces in-chamber resonances,
resulting in a more natural, present, and open sound.

A must in any stage microphone, the en•CORE 300 is built to handle the rigors of the road with a reinforced chassis
that doubles as a protective ‘exoskeleton’ for the capsule, a heavy-gauge zinc barrel grip to protect microphone
components and reduce resonance, and electro-plated steel parts and hardened paint finishes for maximum scratch
resistance.

The en•CORE 300 will be available in February 2010 for $199 MSRP at authorized Blue Microphone retailers.

Taylor Guitars Introduces the Baritone 8-String Guitar

By Sat, Jan 16, 2010

Taylor Guitars Introduces the Baritone 8-String Guitar

Born from a love of tone and a passion for innovation, Taylor Guitars has expanded the possibilities of guitar voicing in its new model, the Baritone 8-String. With a bold, fresh sound, the Baritone 8-String broadens the tonal spectrum, giving players a rich musical palette that promises to uncork new inspiration of musical harmony.

Featuring a Grand Symphony body with a richly hued back and sides of Indian rosewood topped with Sitka spruce, the Baritone 8-String embodies the spirit of a traditional baritone guitar paired with Taylor's quality craftsmanship and product innovation. The model features a longer-scaled 27-inch neck and Taylor-designed baritone bracing. The guitar is tuned from B to B and features additional octave strings paired along with the third and fourth (D and A) strings. This feature gives players an extended range of sounds, without compromising tonal integrity or playability.

The Baritone 8-String came to be as Taylor's product development team was deep in the throes of designing several series of 35th Anniversary guitars, including a 6-string baritone (XXXV-B) and a 9-string guitar (XXXV-9). The team decided to experiment by creating a hybrid of the two, as Bob Taylor explains. "We loved the traditional baritone, but missed having some of that upper register. We thought, what if we turned it into a 9-string baritone? So, we made one. But after deciding it was a little too jangly, we pulled off the [doubled second] string, leaving the third and fourth octave strings. It sounded awesome."

Adding the two octave strings, Taylor says, transformed the baritone. "It's a whole new ballgame. It's really, really cool because you can either accentuate those octaves or stay away from them. The beauty of this guitar is that it goes low and those two strings brighten it up, but they don't sound too 'octave-y'. It doesn't give you that 12-string effect as much as it really just extends the range because, as a baritone, the octaves aren't really high. It fills the guitar out and gives it a nice (tonal) spread."

The Baritone 8-String is tuned a fourth below standard guitar tuning, allowing the player to play songs in a lower register. In terms of the playing experience, Taylor's David Hosler, a member of the product development team, compares the tonal properties of the 8-string baritone to a blend of three different instruments. "When I hear it, I feel like I'm hearing a 6-string, a bass, and a bit of 12-string all in one guitar," he says. "In giving it a good listen, it sounds like standard and alternate tuning at the same time."

The product development team at Taylor isn't the only group excited about the new model. Taylor-strumming dealers, from metal players to singer-songwriters, are lining up to play and share the experience with their customers. Matt Clancy, from Craig's Music in Weatherford, Texas sampled the 8-string during a fall Taylor Road Show event. As a heavy metal musician, he was blown away with the "bigness of the tone." In fact, he says his favorite thing about the guitar is the tonal fullness he gets from a single strum. "When you're playing regular chords on the 8-string, there's so much more body, especially with octave strings," he elaborates. "It opens up the way minor chords sound, and they sound huge on it. It's a great guitar for guys who do metal and some acoustic rock, as it's perfect for power chords, and for some jazz too, especially if they like playing in low B. It's a guitar that's filled with big, tonal goodness. It adds a depth that you can't get from any other guitar on the market right now."

Evan Carmen, a Taylor dealer from Morgan Music in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, had the chance to play an 8-string prototype during a recent visit to the Taylor factory. As an acoustic singer-songwriter, Carmen is sure this guitar will be an addition to his collection. "There is practical application in nearly every style and genre I can think of," he says. "It's only a matter of time before it starts changing music forever. I can't wait to see how people react to it right out of the gate. No doubt, we'll be hearing it used frequently after people catch wind of what it's capable of. I can't wait to have one of my own."

As enchanting as the guitar is to play and listen to, it's equally attractive visually. The model's appointments include a mother-of-pearl peghead inlay and delicate diamond-shaped fretboard inlays, a three-ring abalone rosette, and abalone-dotted bridge pins. Premium features include Indian rosewood binding, a bone nut and saddle, and an all-gloss finish. Amplified with the Taylor Expression System® pickup and strung with ELIXIR® Baritone strings, the model is also offered in a standard 6-string version.

Available at authorized domestic and international Taylor dealers in mid-winter, the Baritone 8-String will be offered at a suggested retail price of $3,998 and the Baritone 6-String at $3,798. Players looking to keep their baritone guitar equipped with ELIXIR strings® can purchase them through TaylorWare, the company's online store of Taylor-branded clothing, accessories and gear.

Sonic Reality Announces Drum Masters 2- Multi-Track

By Sat, Jan 16, 2010

Sonic Reality Announces Drum Masters 2- Multi-Track

As a follow up to the cutting-edge Drum Masters 1 series, Sonic Reality sound development company is pleased to announce the new “Drum Masters 2 Series” featuring the flagship Infinite Player virtual instrument “Drum Masters 2 Multi-track” powered by Kontakt.

“Drum Masters 2 Multi-track” is the only drum plug-in to provide discrete mic mixing for both drum kits and live played audio Rex™ grooves mapped across the keyboard. This combination of kits and grooves played by some of the best drummers in the world offers the most realistic emulations of studio drum sessions in a plug-in.

Now in version 2, grooves can be selected from a scrolling keyboard menu and mapped along-side the kits in a “performance mode” that allows both to play on the same midi channel and be routed through the same 16 individual outs for seamless transition between midi played kits and live-played audio grooves. For the nuances of style and realism, authentic live grooves were performed by master drummers such as Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel), John Blackwell (Prince), Danny Gottlieb (Pat Metheny Group), Ed Greene (Steely Dan) and Nick D’Virgilio (Tears for Fears). These audio drum loops are unique, time-aligned multi-track Rex™ loops that can be triggered from the keyboard and they automatically snap to your host’s tempo while still being able to mix individual mic channels. This is an elastic live studio drum session itself, but to customize drum parts to your song - we also provide the midi-playable drum kit from the session.

The Drum Masters 2 Multi-track drum kits are now mapped in GM, iMap™, Performance, V-Drum and a Custom map mode with midi learn. Now Drum Masters 2 is compatible with any midi controller – keyboard, pads or e-drums of all brands and models. Each kit features a proprietary new “Round Robin” feature that randomizes alternate hits of the drum to avoid machine gun effects and to provide greater realism. Instant easy control of each performance articulation is provided, as well as ready-made presets for instant gratification right out of the box. Now with built-in non-destructible DSP effects, swappable kit pieces for unlimited custom “hybrid kits” and a new low price, Drum Masters 2 Multi-track aims to provide an expandable virtual drum studio sound source for any musician.

“Drum Masters 2 Multi-track is the flagship product for a massive series we’re doing on drums for our Infinite Player” says Sonic Reality CEO Dave Kerzner. “In 2010, we also have titles featuring Neil Peart, Bill Cobham, Terry Bozzio and other drum legends’ kits with the same feature layout so it is easy to learn once and apply to all”

Drum Masters 2 Multi-track comes with Infinite Player, Sonic Reality’s expandable “gateway” library module within the Native Instruments Kontakt Player 4 software for playing the best of Sonic Reality’s vast sample archives of both drums and other instruments from around the world. The software works stand-alone for the Mac and PC, as well as a plug-in for ProTools, Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Digital Performer, Live and every major DAW today. The Infinite Player sounds also work inside the player or in the full version of Kontakt 3.5 or higher.

Price for Drum Masters 2: MSRP $299, Street $249.

ELIXIR® STRINGS OUTFITS NEW BARITONE TAYLOR GUITARS WITH CUSTOM STRING SETS

ELIXIR® STRINGS OUTFITS NEW BARITONE TAYLOR GUITARS WITH CUSTOM STRING SETS

Elixir Strings, pioneer of long life strings, has designed custom acoustic sets for Taylor’s new 8-String and 6-String baritone guitars. The sets will be on display at Winter NAMM 2010 (Booth 5000, Hall B).

Born from a love of tone and a passion for innovation, the baritone guitars deliver a truly unique acoustic voice. Tuned from B to B, they offer players a stronger, deeper tonal range at a comfortable string tension. When it came time to select strings for its latest models, Taylor Guitars knew that Elixir Strings would be able to provide the excellent tone and long life that its players were looking for.

“What makes our new 8-string and 6-string baritones standout pieces are the chord voicings that are unavailable from traditional acoustic guitars,” says David Hosler, Taylor vice president. “Elixir Strings was a logical choice to outfit these guitars because, for the past ten years, the company has provided our guitars with long tone life strings. Elixir continues this tradition with its new 8-string and 6-string sets.”

The acoustic baritone 8-string and 6-string sets feature acoustic 80/20 bronze wound strings with the company’s Ultra Thin Nanoweb® Coating and Anti-Rust plain steels. While the new Elixir Strings sets were developed at Taylor Guitars’ request, they are compatible with any acoustic baritone guitar

“Like Taylor Guitars, Elixir Strings is always looking to develop new and innovative products for our players so we were thrilled when Taylor asked us to design custom sets of strings for these unique instruments,” says Craig Theorin, product manager, Elixir Strings. “Elixir Strings has a long relationship with Taylor Guitars and we are happy to be continuing that tradition by providing 8-string and 6-string sets for its latest baritone guitars with the long tone life that our acoustic strings are known for.”

About Elixir® Strings

Elixir Strings is the pioneer in coated string technology and is available in two string "flavors." Strings with ultra-thin NANOWEB® Coating provide the bright tone and punch of uncoated strings, yet keep their lively tone three to five times longer than ordinary strings. The thin coating is nearly undetectable, providing the feel of traditional strings. Elixir Strings with original POLYWEB® Coating also sound great three to five times longer than ordinary strings, have a balanced tone with smooth response, feel comfortably smooth and reduce finger squeak. Elixir Strings are available in a full range of gauges for acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, banjo and mandolin.

Today, Elixir Strings are installed as original equipment by a growing list of discriminating electric guitar and bass manufacturers, including Ibanez, Tom Anderson Guitarworks, Brian Moore Guitars, Carvin, Melancon Guitars as well as premium acoustic guitar luthiers such as Taylor Guitars, Santa Cruz Guitar Company, Lakewood Guitars, CA Guitars, Carvin, and Goodall Guitars. Elixir Strings are endorsed by popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Melissa Etheridge, Jewel, Train, Dave Mason, Michael W. Pro Co Sound - A Legend Returns

Pro Co Sound - A Legend Returns

A legend returns. Pro Co Sound, Inc., announces the re-issue of its world-famous ’85 “Whiteface” RAT distortion pedal. The Limited Edition ’85 Whiteface RAT will be produced in a one-time limited quantity and is scheduled to be available for distribution as early as February 2010. The Whiteface RAT is planned to be on display at Pro Co’s exhibit at the 2010 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA January 14th through 17th.

The Limited Edition Whiteface RAT is a re-issue of the RAT model that was in production at Pro Co from 1985 until it was discontinued in 1989 in favor of the current RAT2. The ’85 Whiteface is characterized by its small, square “indestructible” steel enclosure, which was a departure from the large steel boxes Pro Co had been using to package the RAT prior to that time. The ‘85 RAT is further identified by the RAT logo silkscreened on its face. The Pro Co and RAT logos appear reversed out of a white field that is enclosed by a white ruled box. This is where the term “Whiteface” comes from. The RAT gained worldwide popularity in the late 1980’s when its use was publicized by several major artists, including Jeff Beck.

The 2010 version of the Whiteface RAT has been painstakingly researched and designed to produce a pedal as close to the original in appearance and sound as is possible today. This includes the accurate reproduction of the ’85 RAT circuit and the inclusion of the LM308 chip. The LM308 chip is believed to be one of the main ingredients to the famous ’85 RAT tone.

Pro Co Introduces New iGate Audio Gateway

Pro Co Sound, Inc., announces the introduction of the new iGate Audio Gateway to its line of Portable Audio Player Interface Devices. The iGate is scheduled for availability beginning in February 2010. iGate is planned to be on display at Pro Co’s exhibit at the 2010 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA January 14th through 17th.

The iGate Audio Gateway is a rack-mount universal interface designed to conveniently feed the outputs of various “real world” audio sources into professional sound systems. iGate takes a high impedance, headphone, or line level signal from popular sources like iPods/MP3 players, mono or stereo unbalanced line inputs, guitar, bass or keyboard inputs, and computer audio outputs and converts their (various impedance level) signals into low impedance balanced microphone signals that can be inserted into any professional mixing console. It’s like having an iFace and DB1 all together in a convenient single rack space package. A low impedance microphone pass thru input is also included as a convenience to the operator/user.

The rack mount package makes the iGate ideal for use in studio, live sound, education and corporate audio applications. It is housed in Pro Co’s rugged 19-inch “Unibox” enclosure with easy-to-read laser-etched control graphics on both the front and back panels. Each iGate is hand crafted and tested by Pro Co, in Kalamazoo Michigan, and comes with Pro Co’s no nonsense “Any Excuse, Even Abuse” warranty.

For more info please go to our website http://www.procosound.com or call (800) 253-7360, or visit Pro Co's NAMM Booth #6949.

Taylor Invites Players to "Rock It Your Way" with Customizable SolidBodys

By Sat, Jan 16, 2010

Taylor Invites Players to "Rock It Your Way" with Customizable SolidBodys

Taylor Guitars is inviting players to "rock it your way" with the introduction of customizable SolidBody guitars. Fans of the Classic, Standard and Custom SolidBodys can now tailor their choice of pickup configurations, colors, and have the option of a Taylor-designed tremolo, all to dial in their perfect tone and look.

"By adding a variety of pickups and configurations, players have a multitude of options available, literally, at their fingertips, to reflect their personalities and tonal preferences," shared David Hosler, vice president. "Beyond mere color choices, we wanted to offer players the opportunity to customize their SolidBody from the top down."

For the perfect tone, the company has expanded its popular, guitar player friendly, plug and play loaded pickguards across the SolidBody models. Totally solderless and easily swapped with just a screw driver, the new pickup combos come ready to rock in 11 different combinations on a choice of four different pickguard colors, including black, tortoise, and black or white pearl. Players have the option of two mini or full-sized high gain (HG) or high definition (HD) humbuckers, two or three mini HD or HG humbuckers, three single coils, or a two single coil and one full-size HG pickup split. Offered for the first time in the SolidBody line, players will also have the option of a Vintage Alnico (VA) loaded pickguard. The VA pickups, a familiar and welcome sound to the electric guitar enthusiast, pay homage to the tradition of classic humbuckers but impart its own unique identity in the world of electric pickups. Hosler explains: "I've always liked that big wooly tone that comes with PAF (patent applied for) humbuckers. The goal was to create a pickup that was a more modern version of that type of sound." Custom and Standard SolidBody players will also have a choice of pickguard-free, swappable, modular pickups, including two mini or full-sized HG or HD pickups, as well as a two full-sized VAs.

Fans of the whammy bar will now have an option of adding the Taylor tremolo to their SolidBody. Sitting on top the sleek, yet comfortable Taylor-designed fulcrum vibrato bridge, the tremolo features a modern design, one that Hosler calls "inspiring". "One of the most unique things with this tremolo is that is has a very modern feel," he explains. Traditional tremolo users will be impressed with the feel and the easy-to-engage action of the bar. Hosler shares, "On top of looking cool, this trem feels good and sounds even better."

Exclusive to the SolidBody Classic model, the company has added a variety of vibrant colors to the line including Lava Red Pearl, Jewelescent Orange, Purple Flake, Blue Metallic, Viper Blue, Magenta Pearl, Sublime, Tobacco Sunburst, Sage Green Metallic and Titanium Pearl. The Classic will continue to be offered in Black, Natural, Trans Red and Trans White.

Each SolidBody features a five-way pickup switch, comfortable tone and volume control knobs, Taylor's proprietary T-Lock™ single bolt neck, and comes ready to rock in a Taylor hard case. The suggested retail prices for the SolidBody Classic options start at $1,748, for the SolidBody Standard at $2,398, and for the Custom at $3,098. The models will be available at authorized domestic and international Taylor dealers in early spring. The complete line of the company's swappable and solderless loaded pickguards and modular pickups is currently available at TaylorWare, the company's online merchandise and electronics store.

Taylor Guitars Announces the Serj Tankian Signature Model T5

By Sat, Jan 16, 2010

Taylor Guitars Announces the Serj Tankian Signature Model T5

For the versatile rocker, no guitar can speak as loudly or as delicately as the award-winning Taylor T5, the industry's best-selling electric/acoustic hybrid guitar. Just ask Serj Tankian, the accomplished, creative frontman and songwriter for the Grammy® award-winning rock band System of a Down. Tankian, who recently released his first solo album, Elect the Dead, has played Taylor acoustic guitars for several years, and has spent the past two years touring with a Taylor T5. Now, Tankian brings his creative input, coupled with the expertise of Taylor's design team, to his own signature model, the STSM-T5.

The STSM-T5 is based on the popular T5-C and features a sleek, thinline opaque black body, crafted from sapele and paired with a maple top. Two stylized, unbound f-holes grace the top, and the fretboard and peghead feature a red "energy wheel" inlay design that was provided by Tankian. The same vibrant red binds the body, fretboard and peghead. Says Tankian of his T5: "The way the T5 is designed, especially when playing in an arena environment, sounds like a great acoustic and is by far superior to anything else in terms of sound, clarity, depth and tone. When I'm writing music or lyrics, I'm just pouring whatever comes out of me from the universe and channeling it and structuring it into a quality record."

The versatility of this guitar lies in Taylor's proprietary T5 electronics and five-way switching, which together yield a wide range of guitar tones, from delicate acoustic to full-on electric crunch. Three magnetic pickups - an under-fretboard neck humbucker, a visible bridge humbucker, and an acoustic body sensor mounted to the inside surface of the top - provide a complete integration of tonal output. "I try to make music in a way that I'd be interested in listening to it myself," Tankian says. "Using the T5 gives me the versatility of a pure acoustic sound or electric. It's light and thin too, so you can stand in front of the mic and just rock out. For a stage environment, the T5 works great."

The STSM-T5 is offered at a suggested retail price of $3,198 and comes in a ready-to-rock hardshell case with a certificate of authenticity signed by Tankian. The STSM is available at authorized Taylor dealers worldwide.

To experience the company's new guitars, artist performances, or to learn more about Taylor Guitars, please visit the Taylor Guitars booth on the second floor of the Anaheim Convention Center, Room 213.

Sting to Support Global Hearing Loss Campaign

Sting joins a host of other celebrity ambassadors including Jude Law, Elle Macpherson, Annie Lennox, Jerry Hall and Peter Gabriel. Each supporter has been photographed by musician and photographer Bryan Adams holding the Hear the World pose – with one hand cupped behind their ear to convey conscious hearing.

More than 800 million people worldwide, 16 percent of the world's population, have hearing loss, and experts predict this will increase to 1.1 billion by 2015. In the United States, an estimated 31 million people have hearing loss and often struggle for many years before seeking advice. Studies have shown that this has a significantly negative effect on a person's social, emotional and physical well-being.

Hear the World, which was founded in 2006 by leading hearing systems manufacturer Phonak, aims to call attention to the importance of taking care of your hearing, to prevent hearing loss in later life, as well as the social and emotional impact of hearing loss and the solutions available for those who suffer.

"Our hearing is not only integral to how we communicate, but also how we experience the world around us," Sting commented. "It's a fact that we gain more information from hearing than seeing. I hope by supporting this campaign people are reminded to appreciate every sound and fully protect their sense of hearing."

For more information about Hear the World, the celebrity ambassadors and advice about protecting your hearing, visit www.hear-the-world.com.

'Rock City Club' To Discover Rock 'Stars of Tomorrow' with Michael Jackson’s Comeback Partner

Rockrena LLC, the company that is building ‘Rock City’ entertainment facilities in Las Vegas and around the globe, today announced the launch of the Rock City Club as a unique way for undiscovered artists and rock bands to compete for performance contracts at ‘Rock City’, and to be exposed to promoters, record labels, industry veterans and fans.

All rock artists and bands that join the Rock City Club will be submitting their music to our “E-Promoter®” team of experts, and their video will be posted on the Rock City Club website. The “E-Promoter®” team will select from all video submissions those artists and bands that will then be invited to Las Vegas to audition live in front of a panel of legendary music icons, music industry executives, and ‘Star Dealmakers’ with the goal of securing a performance contract to perform in Rock City projects in Las Vegas and around the globe.

In addition, the Rock City Club “E-Promoter®” team affords every rock artist and band joining the Rock City Club an opportunity not found elsewhere. Their music will be critiqued and their talent and marketability assessed. The Rock City Club “E-Promoter®” team will then promote selected artists and bands that they feel have what it takes to be successful in the highly competitive music industry. Rock City Club “E-Promoter®” programs opens doors to industry professionals, agents, promoters, managers, Indie Labels, and Major Record Labels.

The Rock City Club website gets artists and bands music heard by our “super connected” team of industry professionals and fans across the globe. The Rock City Club mission is to give every one of our members a shot at a performance, recording, management or promotion contract… with many of the club member rock artists and bands making it all the way to Las Vegas to perform in front of music industry powerbrokers. Rock City Club will discover the ‘stars of tomorrow today’ through the Rock City Club.

The Rock City Club was developed by a team of industry experts including Brian Silver, Ofek Hayon and the
President and CEO of ROCKRENA Jack Wishna, a leading entrepreneur credited with conceiving and creating some of the most successful and media intense deals in history, including:

- Convinced Michael Jackson to return to America after 18 months in exile, moved him back, and worked with him for seven months to create the ‘biggest comeback in the history of entertainment’. The ‘Rock City’ project for the Las Vegas ‘strip’ was to feature Michael Jackson, and for Jackson and Wishna to present other superstar talent alongside discovered ‘stars of tomorrow’. Rockrena and the Rock City Club are now building on this collaboration of Michael Jackson and Jack Wishna.

- Created Wayne Newton’s contract with The Stardust Resort & Casino, which at $250 million dollars was the largest entertainment contract in Las Vegas history. Wishna is known as the creator of the ‘headliner in residence’ that started with Wayne Newton, and was duplicated by Celine Dion, Danny Gans, Elton John, Garth Brooks and Barry Manilow.

- Brought Donald J. Trump to Las Vegas in a high-profile celebrity deal creating the Trump International Hotel & Towers. The Trump International now stands as the tallest super-luxury residential structure on the Las Vegas Strip with combined sales exceeding $1.3 billion. In addition to Donald J. Trump, Wishna brought international attention to this project through Wishna’s connections to such celebrities as Britney Spears, Michael Flatley, and Michael Jackson.

- Created ‘Rock City’ as part of Rockrena, a global reaching entertainment company. ‘Rock City’ is designed to bring the ultimate music experience to the marketplace through multiple projects that will be developed and operated around the globe. Each project will use rock music’s living legends as anchor acts working alongside the ‘stars of tomorrow’, who are identified through Rock City Club’s worldwide search to discover and promote the best ‘new talent’ on the planet.

Alan Parsons Debuts the Art & Science of Sound Recording
After almost two years in production, Alan Parsons’ Art and Science of Sound Recording, the highly-anticipated epic living encyclopedia covering all aspects of sound recording, is releasing the first six exclusive sectons, available for streaming and digital download at www.artandscienceofsound.com.

Parsons, the acclaimed engineer, musician, and record producer, was involved the production of several legendary albums, including The Beatles' Abbey Road and Let it Be, as well as Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, which earned him his first of many Grammy nominations. He has worked as an engineer and producer on countless hit albums for Paul McCartney & Wings, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Pilot, Al Stewart, the Hollies, and many others. With Eric Woolfson, Parsons co-founded The Alan Parsons Project, famous for its revolving group of studio musicians and vocalists and its platinum albums and singles including Games People Play and Eye in the Sky.

The Art and Science Of Sound Recording, an eight hour definitive collection of training videos produced by Parsons, gives viewers his exclusive insider access to legendary musicians, producers and engineers and to their award-winning recording techniques. Featured guests span the entire realm of music recording, from producers like Jack Joseph Puig (John Mayer, Green Day, Fergie), John Fields (The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus), to Elliot Scheiner (The Eagles, Steely Dan) and Jack Douglas (John Lennnon, Aerosmith, Slash). Although Parsons’ heritage is firmly in the rock camp, the series features country music producers like Tony Brown (Dixie Chicks, George Strait) and Chuck Ainlay (Melissa Etheridge, Mark Knopfler), alternative rock producers like Sylvia Massey (Beck, Tool), R&B producers and engineers like Jimmy Douglass (Justin Timberlake, Timbaland), Allen Sides (Phil Collins, Joni Mitchell), as well as Grammy-winning artists like Michael McDonald, Taylor Hawkins and The Foo Fighters. The Art and Science of Sound Recording series also invites viewers into Parson’s personal custom HD recording facility and some of the country’s most acclaimed reecording studios, such as Ocean Way, Record One, Sound Kitchen, Blackbird, Phantom Recording and Henson Recording Studios (formerly A&M.)

The Art & Science of Sound Recording collection offers something for everyone interested in recording their own music, from teens with a budding interested in music, to students at music and audio engineering schools, to professional audio engineers busy making music. The series traces the recording process from the beginning principles of studio acoustics all the way to the final mix of a new album, shown being tracked live. Everything in the recording process is closely studied, from studio equipment and instruments to individual techniques, and even individual applications, such as simultaneous recording of acoustic guitar and voice, or recording a choir.

Supported by extensive musical examples, custom diagrams, and interview clips, The Art & Science of Sound Recording takes a classic approach to recording and listening - followed by informed experimentation – and shows how this approach can live in the modern DAW-based environment.

The initial sections individually examine the topics of MIDI, EQ, Delays, Drums, Noise Gates and Recording a Choir. Presented in an easy to follow step by step style, each section offers insider tips and tricks; even after multiple viewings, the viewer will still find new ideas to apply to his or her own music. Details of each include:

MIDI
Here Parsons demonstrates exactly what MIDI is and explores its current uses and applications. Featured guests include Dave Smith, who developed MIDI in 1983, Madonna producer Patrick Leonard, and Simon Rhodes, senior classical recording engineer from Abbey Road Studios.

EQ
This epic section gets to the heart of what EQ is all about, from frequency response to the range of human hearing to every form of EQ process and device. Instrument by instrument, Alan looks at all the major sound types: what they need and some of the danger areas. Blackbird’s John McBride and Green Day producer Jack Joseph Puig provide invaluable observations on this key aspect of recording.

Delays
Tracing its development from tape echo in the 1950s, Parsons looks at modern delay devices, parameters, and applications. This section features an extended free-form section where Alan uniquely twists, turns, and distorts delay effects on vocals.

Drums
In this section, the Art and Science of Sound crew descends upon legendary British session drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto) in his Los Angeles studio. Simon reveals many of the secrets of his phenomenal sound, from tuning, to miking – choice and positioning - to recording and processing. Additional insights on phase are offered from Tool producer Sylvia Massey.

Noise Gates
In this section, Parsons’ finds Paul Buff, the man who invented the noise gate (and who happened to sell Frank Zappa his first studio), and moves on from there. A complete set of practical demonstrations of ways you can use a noise gate in the studio concludes the scene.

Recording a Choir
While almost every school, college, and church has wanted to record a choir at some stage, and most likely already have the equipment – most need the knowhow. In this section, Parsons shows up for class one morning at a California High School and teaches them the art and science of recording a jazz choir. The result is pure magic.

Alan Parsons host and presents the entire project; aided by actor and musician Billy Bob Thornton, who takes on the role of narrator throughout.

The next valuable series of six sections will be available for download later in January, followed by the final sections for download just ahead of the release of the complete DVD boxed set early this year.

Visit www.artandscienceofsound.com to download the first six sections, take the recording quiz to win free downloads, and learn about premium membership packages which offer exclusive bonus materials. For a limited time, visitors can pre-order their copy of the highly-anticipated complete boxed set at a discount.

The band is thrilled to announce that they have just been invited by the recently reunited Alice In Chains to support them on a big part of their upcoming and practically sold out North American tour. The tour will coincide with the US album release of TRANSYLVANIA, their North American debut, out February 2nd.

TRANSYLVANIA is a collection of tracks featuring the band’s fusion of 70’s grooves with haunting indie rock. Rock Sound rave the band “keeps things deceptively simple and doggedly psychedelic,” while NME praises “any band that name checks forgotten ‘60s psych heroes The 13th Floor Elevators is alright by us. But Creature With The Atom Brain go one better by managing to sound like the first QOTSA album; that is, a heady, psychotropic descent into the underworld of drone-this is fantastic."

ANVIL CONCERT TOUR "ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC" TO CONTINUE POUNDING AFTER CRITIC'S CHOICE AWARDS

By Wed, Jan 13, 2010

ANVIL CONCERT TOUR "ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC" TO CONTINUE POUNDING AFTER CRITIC'S CHOICE AWARDS

ANVIL, the Canadian heavy metal band whose "Cinderella" story, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," is nominated for a Critics Choice Movie Award in the category of Best Documentary, will travel to Los Angeles to attend the awards presentation that will be held at the Hollywood Palladium this Friday, January 15. The rockumentary has been named one of 2009's Best Documentaries by a slew of film critics associations across the continent, including critics in Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, and Las Vegas, as well as the International Documentary Association, the Online Film Critics Society, and the National Society of Film Critics. It also made the Year End Top Ten lists in publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, and Village Voice. The 15th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards will be broadcast January 15 live on VH1 at 9PM ET/PT.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that the trip to Los Angeles means Anvil, who kicked off its "The Anvil Experience" North American tour in Cleveland, OH last week, will have to cancel its January 14 date in Baltimore, MD and the New York City date set for January 15. But, it's not all bad news as the New York date has been rescheduled to take place on Friday, March 19, still at The Gramercy Theatre, still with an 8PM show time. Tickets purchased for the 1/15 show will be honored on 3/19.

And there's more ANVIL tour news. Originally, "The Anvil Experience" concerts were going to open with a screening of the "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" documentary followed by the band playing a live set. However, according to Anvil's guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow, "We've been so fortunate with the success of the film and then the DVD, so many people have already seen it, so we've decided that this tour is going to be all about the music, we're just going to play our set, and just ROCK with the fans. 'The Anvil Experience' will be an evening of pure, unadulterated rock'n'roll." Local bands will open the shows.

The 27-date concert tour - the band's first major tour in more than a decade - is in support of "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," as well as the band's latest album, This Is Thirteen which one rock critic called "Anvil's "best record in over two decades."

Universal Music Group (UMG) Partners With Free All Music to Offer Free Legal Downloads

By Tue, Jan 12, 2010

Universal Music Group (UMG) Partners With Free All Music to Offer Free Legal Downloads
Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company, has partnered with ad-sponsored digital music download service FreeAllMusic.com (www.freeallmusic.com) to offer consumers free, legal downloads from UMG's broad digital catalog of chart-topping musical artists. The announcement was made today by David Ring, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Business Affairs for UMG's eLabs, and Richard Nailling, Chief Executive Officer of FreeAllMusic.com.

Through this agreement, thousands of tracks representing many of the world's most prominent artists are being made available now in FAM's current private beta period, where users will be offered up to 20 free downloads per month, five per week, starting every New Music Tuesday. This is based on the usage patterns of a typical "hits-oriented" iTunes customer. FreeAllMusic.com is keeping with its "walk before we run" philosophy in slowly building its user and advertiser base.

FreeAllMusic.com is a new music service that provides consumers with downloadable, high-quality, iPod-compatible MP3s of popular songs that are advertiser-paid, free, legal, and unrestricted (DRM-free). In exchange for watching one brief video commercial per download on the FreeAllMusic.com site, users receive a permanent, high-quality download which they can enjoy anytime, anywhere with no further advertising or restrictions. There is no software required for the service. Users' music selections and sponsoring brands are then promoted externally through an opt-in, consumer-informed digital advertising network.

To download a free track, registered users simply select a participating brand they prefer, and watch a brief video from that brand. After each download, FreeAllMusic.com serves additional advertisements for that brand across targeted websites. Visitors to those sites will see ads displaying information about downloads, supporting brands, and FreeAllMusic.com. Users can also email information about their download to friends, who can also download it legally for free…if they watch the ad, too. Sharing of download activity can also be posted on popular social networking sites.

Charter brands for the private beta period include Coca-Cola®, Warner Bros. TV, Zappos.com, LIONSGATE®, LG, inconcert3D, and Powermat.

Fans get their free music legally, brands gain new loyalties, and artists are compensated no differently than if the tracks were purchased, creating a fair balance for all participants.

"For the first time, a legitimate free music download service is making 'doing the right thing' easier than piracy. Our site is fast, easy and fun for consumers," noted FreeAllMusic.com's Richard Nailling. "The addition of UMG's artists from Lady Gaga and Rihanna to Taylor Swift and Jay Sean means people can count on FAM to offer an excellent selection of DRM-free music for just about every taste."

"Free All Music has created a new advertising model that connects fans, artists and brands," stated Mr. Ring. "It provides an opportunity for fans to support the artists that they love, and brands to build loyalty with existing and new consumers. Universal Music is committed to enabling and supporting services that provide engaging alternatives for fans looking to legally download music."

Monster, the leader in audio/video accessories, and Beats

    by Dr. Dre

, co-founded by legendary artist and producer Dr. Dre and Interscope Geffen A&M

Chairman Jimmy Iovine, announced a revolutionary new addition to their popular headphone

    family –

Beats by Dr. Dre Spin™ Professional Headphones

    (SRP: $349). A breakthrough in

professional music listening and creative equipment, the Beats Spin headphones were

developed through the collaborative efforts of legendary artist and producer Dr. Dre, Monster

    and Jimmy Iovine.

The new over-ear Beats Spin headphones combine sophisticated construction and advanced

sonic technologies to deliver the power, extra durability and sound isolation that until now has

been lacking in professional headphones. Beats Spin headphones are tailored for use by

working DJs, producers, engineers and musicians, both in the studio and onstage.

Dr. Dre noted: "Our first headphones delivered what we wanted: to hear the music the right way,

team conducted in-depth research with many of the industry’s top professional recording artists,

engineers and DJs to find out just what they wanted in a great headphone. One of the things we

heard most from them is that they need a super-durable headphone that could be counted on

for repeated use. In addition to making this and other specific professional concerns a top

priority, our engineers worked hard to develop a headphone with impeccable sonic performance

that would be ideal for everyday use by anybody who is truly serious about their music listening.

The result is a first-of-its-kind high-performance headphone with a host of extremely useful

innovations that will literally change the way pros think about their headphones and how they

use them in their work and their leisure time.”

Beats Spin new and innovative features and capabilities include:

rough and repeated professional use, every aspect of Beats Spin headphones was designed for

rock-solid durability. Most importantly, all components of the all-important headphone hinge are

made of metal, unlike the plastic components used by other pro headphones.

    Sound Isolation:

To recreate the quietness of an isolated recording studio listening experience,

Beats Spin headphones feature a variety of ambient noise-isolation capabilities, allowing

consumers to hear the music clearly, even in the noisiest environments.

On-the-Fly Mixing and Sharing with Monster Patented Input/Output Jacks:

    For musicians

or engineers working in the studio, as well as DJs spinning in a club, the art of creation involves

a great deal of on-the-fly improvisation. That’s why both Beats Spin earpieces feature specially

designed Monster patented jacks that can serve as both inputs or outputs. This unique

configuration frees users to quickly and easily send and accept signals from a soundboard or

share their creative mixes with fellow artists.

“No More Tangle” Cord Management, Plus ControlTalk™:

Beats Spin solve the problem of

tangled cable with several key modifications. First, they feature a long 6-foot cord, and unlike

many professional headphone models, which utilize 9- or 12-inch coiled sections, the coiled

section of the Beats Spin cable is just 3” long (expandable to 1-foot). This allows users just the

right amount of coil for long reaches, but avoids the high tangle properties of longer coil cables.

Beats Spin also offer a second cord option for added flexibility in everyday use as well –

Monster’s super-convenient ControlTalk headphone cable*. ControlTalk can be used with

    iPhone

    ™ and iPod®

for music playback control as well as to take hands-free calls with iPhone

and many smartphones. The cable’s integrated high-grade microphone and answer button lets

users access their music and answer phone calls without having to reach into their pocketbook,

    backpack or pocket.

    Comfort:

Everything about Beats Spin, from their oversize plush ear cups to their extra wide

band are designed for total wearer comfort.

Ear Cups That Swivel and Can Be Removed for Cleaning.

Both ear cups swivel back easily

for greater artistic freedom and flexibility and can be easily removed for washing. This same

swivel mechanism also plays a role in helping make Beats Spin headphones super compact

    when folded away for storage

    3

    * The ControlTalk remote and mic are supported by iPod nano (4th and 5th generation), iPod

classic (120GB), iPod touch (2nd generation), and iPhone 3GS and newer, but not all,

Blackberry models. The remote is supported by iPod shuffle (3rd generation). Audio is

supported by all iPod models. Requires software version 1.0.3 for iPod nano (4th or 5

    th

generation), 2.0.1 for iPod classic (120GB), and 2.2 or later for iPod touch (2nd generation).

Support for Blackberry varies by model. Subject to change.

BACK SURGERY SCHEDULED FOR SLAYER'S TOM ARAYA, BAND'S TOUR PLANS CANCELLED THROUGH APRIL

    By Thu, Jan 07, 2010

BACK SURGERY SCHEDULED FOR SLAYER'S TOM ARAYA, BAND'S TOUR PLANS CANCELLED THROUGH APRIL

"Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said Slayer's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."

This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

    By Mon, Jan 04, 2010

AGE OF EVIL TO SUPPORT UPCOMING FIRST-EVER U.S. SHOWS BY HEAVY METAL SUPERGROUP, HAIL!

The fast-rising heavy metal band, Age of Evil, will be supporting the
first-ever U.S. shows for Hail - which is comprised of such renowned
names as Tim “Ripper” Owens (singer, Judas Priest), Andreas Kisser
(guitarist, Sepultura), Dave Ellefson (bass, F5), and Mike Portnoy
(drums, Dream Theater). The shows will take place at B.B. Kings in New
York City on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, and at Showcase Live in
Foxborough, MA (just outside Boston) on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
“We will tear your faces off,” declares AOE guitarist Jordan Ziff about the
group’s kick-ass live show. “And if not, it’s a money back guarantee.
Just kidding. But we give 150% every night we play. We are trying to
rejuvenate good music into the metal scene and a certain rawness that
everyone has seemed to have lost. You need to put your soul into your
    music.”

The Scottsdale, Arizona-based Age of Evil, which in addition to Ziff, is
comprised of singer/rhythm guitarist Jeremy Goldberg, bassist Jacob
Goldberg, and drummer Garrett Ziff, is riding high on wide spread
acclaim for their recent release, the six-track EP, ‘Get Dead.’ "Thanks
to young Arizona rockers Age of Evil, the sounds of vintage metal are
alive and well as we kick off the second decade of the 21st Century,"
raves Andy Secher, Editor for Hit Parader Magazine. And if that wasn’t
enough acclaim, "Metal" Tim Henderson from BraveWords.com adds,
"Youth Gone Wild! These school-yard bruisers are turning heads and
taking vintage thrash to a new era of combat.”Additionally, Revolver
Magazine picked Age of Evil as a 'Band to Watch" in 2010, and ‘Get
Dead’ was recently deemed a “New & Noteworthy Release” for four
weeks straight on iTunes. Quickly building up a solid following thanks
to shows throughout the world - including European dates this past
summer with the likes of Jon Oliva’s Pain, Soulfly, Arch Enemy, and
Manowar - the upcoming dates with Hail! will truly be a headbanger’s
delight. Judging from their rapid ascension, catch these young lads in
