August 2009

Summer is in full swing and of course that means concerts and festivals. One of the largest is the Rockstar Mayhem Festival which this year was headlined by Marilyn Manson. There is a reason it is called the Mayhem Festival...it is literally mayhem but, Europe has been doing these types of festivals for years and of course we can't forget our own Woodstock which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary on August 15th and 16th.
While we were at The Rockstar Mayhem Festival we were able to interview Joel from Killswitch Engage, Moose from Bullet for my Valentine, Matt from Trivium, Alex from Whitechapel and Alex from Black Dahlia Murder. Meanwhile, Jenipher was in New York interviewing Raine from Our Lady Peace and Billy Sheehan while Dave was in England interviewing Black Robot!
Be sure to check out our newest section by Lis called "Grinding the Axe" Where we will feature interviews and spotlights on amazing guitar players both past and present. In this month's issue Lis interviews Darwin DeVitis of the band Carbon 9. Check him out!
Last month Lis did a great article on "Life After Rockstar:INXS" well this month you have the chance to win the book INXS Story to Story: The Official Autobiography. So don't miss this month's issue! Rock on!

Backstage with Joel of Killswitch Engage!

The new, self-titled album from Massachusetts metallers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE sold 58,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart. Their third album, "As Daylight Dies", has just been certified gold.  Killswitch Engage landed themselves on the mainstage of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival alongside Bullet For My Valentine, Slayer, and Marilyn Manson. Coming off Disturbed's "Music as a Weapon" Tour these guys have been non stop touring and it has paid off big time. We had a chance to talk to Joel backstage on the Denver stop of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. He was a truly down to earth nice guy who totally rocked out when he took the stage.....

Grinding the Axe with Carbon 9's Darwin DeVitis

Grinding the Axe with Carbon 9's Darwin DeVitis

There is nothing like the sound of a screaming guitar.  The instrument itself has as distinct of voice as that of a band's lead singer, and the sound for different guitarists is just as unique.  But what makes those axe grinders tick?  Where did their inspirations come from?  What of their backgrounds?  What drove them to pick up this amazing instrument and spin forth their amazing musical talents through its strings?

Welcome to Grinding the Axe. A place where you can find out more about those awesome guitar players you know and love and be introduced to the awesome ones that you don't.

Today features an artist that I have come to admire and respect as musician, but even more so as a person.  A man with a love and passion for music, for life and for being true to who and what you are.  Darwin DeVitis of Carbon 9.

I got to know Darwin through the wonderful world of Myspace when I received a friend request from the band's page, in which he manages.  I fell in love with the music instantly and have featured their work in previous issues of Road Crew Magazine, including an interview with lead vocalist Stacey Quinealty.  But it wasn't just music that forged a friendship between us, it was Superbowl season and it was then I discovered that Darwin is a HUGE Steelers fan.  If you know anything about me, then you know that I myself am a die hard Steelers gal, so I was excited that we could talk about more than just music, but on a personal level as well.  Through football season, hockey season, music, just life in general, I know that my life is more enriched through the different topics of conversation that I've shared with him.

When I asked if he would like to be the first artist featured, he jumped at the opportunity to do so, but at the same time was so very humble about it, genuinely appreciative of the chance to share more about himself and Carbon 9.  So, without any further ado, I'm going to turn you over the amazing axe grinder for Carbon 9, Darwin DeVitis.

Hey There! Let me take a moment to introduce myself to you all. I am Darwin DeVitis, guitarist for the band Carbon 9 based out of Los Angeles, CA.  I was recently asked to take part in a new column called "Grinding the Axe" by Melisa Cross and jumped at the opportunity to introduce both myself and my band, Carbon 9 to you all. Before I get to the questions, here is a brief history about me, at Melisa's request...

I was born on December 24th (nice xmas gift for Mom and Dad - at least that's what they tell me) in a small town just south of Pittsburgh, PA with my 2 sisters (Jamie & Marcie) and brother (Charles). Some say they could tell by my screaming that I was meant for a future in rock-n-roll. Before I ever picked up a guitar I was, and still am,  a sports freak. Being from Pittsburgh, PA I am a fan of the Steelers, Penguins and yes...even the Pirates. I somehow love and enjoy sports enough to respect and admire all of the teams and people that work hard to make their dreams happen. To this day I relate a lot of what I learned through team sports to playing in a band and how they are quite similar from peewee, to the pros and playing parties and clubs to being signed and touring. Most of my daily routine is writing, practicing or just playing the guitar. When I can, I work out, watch sports and spend quality time with my wife, Sandi, and our boys. (Cole, Rusty &  Vito_our dogs) These are just a few of the things that help balance my life and get me through.  So enough with the background check and on to all those great questions that hopefully will inspire you to pick up a guitar or instrument of choice and start creating away!

Road Crew: At what age did you start playing guitar?

Darwin: I actually started off singing in grade school chorus and plays. Then I started playing the guitar at the age of 10 when a neighbor friend of mine showed me a guitar and we wanted to start a band and take over the world. From that time on my whole world would change!

Road Crew: Did you take lessons or are you self taught?

Darwin: I'm a Mutt...lol.  I started out taking lessons but my teacher didn't want me playing the kind of music I wanted so I stopped and taught myself off of cds and magazines. I would jam along to them in my bedroom at all hours of the night driving my Dad nuts. I have been currently studying the last few years with a great teacher and friend, Dale Turner. He is just amazing. He took me from a self taught mess to being able to understand what everything is supposed to mean.

Road Crew: Who are your influences?

Darwin: Musically, starting out it was Eddie Van Halen, Warren DeMartini, Jake E. Lee, George Lynch, Dimebag, Zakk Wylde, Nuno and all the "Guitar Heros". As I started writing more songs and different styles, I now look at all music genres and try to take and learn something from each that will help me to grow and be better. In life it's been my family and friends and all I choose to surround myself with. I am blessed and very thankful to have some really great people in my life.

Road Crew: When did you realize that this is what you wanted to do as a career?

Darwin: I don't look at playing the guitar as wanting to do it as a career goal. I look at how it takes me to another place whether I am practicing, writing or playing. Around the age of 16, I started focusing more on bands and playing live and once we started playing live that's when I knew this was something special!

Road Crew:
How did you break into the music scene?

Darwin: With a lot of hard work, practice, writing songs, playing live and always promoting and meeting people. Eventually all the hard work paid off and you meet the right people and filter out the others.

Road Crew: What type of gear do you use?

Darwin: I use Wayne guitars (custom built Wayne and Michael Charvel), Schecter A-7 (7 string guitars), Ovation acoustics, Rivera Knucklehead amplifiers, GHS strings, Rocktron effects, Boss overdrive, noise gate and compressor pedals, Dunlop 95Q Wah, BBE and Troy Barry's Scream Regulator (for lead boosts)

Road Crew: Being from back east, what was the transition like, moving from back east to out west?

Darwin:  I am from a small town just south of Pittsburgh, PA and I moved to L.A. just after school. Where I grew up it was kind of rural, so I actually looked forward to living in the city. I lived in a small apartment with nothing but my guitars and a Laney half stack. I have worked every kind of job that would let me play in bands and gig without the 2 conflicting. The hardest part is having all your family and friends on the East coast, but it makes you work harder at your goals cause you know you have them pulling for you as well.

Road Crew: When did you hook up with C9, and how did that come about?

Darwin: I joined C9 early 2003. I was in another L.A. band at the time (Cut Throat) and I got a call from Curtis (C9 bassist) to come down and jam with the guys. I learned 5 tunes and we got together at a rehearsal place and it was awesome! The blending of my rock/metal background and the mix of Stacey's programming just gave us something special and we've been writing and pounding away everyday since then.

Road Crew: What track off of The Bull holds the most meaning for you and why?

Darwin: Most meaningful track for me would be "Butterflies " My Mom had just passed away and the song was written for her. I even got to write and read a poem in the bridge section. It's been the hardest thing I have been through and every time I play that track I know my Mom is close by.

Road Crew: How are the tour dates coming along?

Darwin: Being in a new band just coming out it can be a bit tough trying to find the right people to work with and all but we are making progress everyday and can not wait to bring our live show to the venues in other cities.

Road Crew: If you could play one venue or festival in particular, what would it be?

Darwin: That is so tough cause I just want to play! If I had to choose something it would probably be CRUEFest or OzzFest in the U.S. and Download Festival in Europe cause I am a huge fan of the bands that are usually on those bills and I would love the opportunity to sit and pick their brains to learn.

Road Crew: What advice do you have for up and coming guitar players?

Darwin: Practice, Practice, Practice, record yourself and Practice more... Make it fun and something you want to do. Play and create the music that you are passionate about and want to share with the world. Don't be afraid to make mistakes or take criticism, they make you stronger. Have fun!

Carbon 9 is currently working on their tour featuring their latest CD The Bull, which can be purchased at Best Buy stores or by digital download on iTunes.  The video for their 3rd single from The Bull, Crawling Over Me, is in production and will be released soon. (Be sure to check back for a "Between the Sheets" feature by C9's Stacey Quinealty coinciding with the video's release).  For more information about Carbon 9, check them out at Myspace, Facebook and their official website.

While taking a break in his home studio, Billy Sheehan was kind enough to give me a call and chat about a variety of things from Buffalo wings, to his 3rd solo disc, Holy Cow, to the Mr Big reunion, and much more. In order to find out what, you are going to have to give a listen to the generously spared moments from his busy schedule. Personally, I can't thank him enough for his accommodating ways. Raine Maida of OUR LADY PEACE

Raine Maida of OUR LADY PEACE

On a overcast afternoon in July, with threats of rain, I had a chance to sit down with Our Lady Peace singer, Raine Maida and discuss their then yet-to-be-released disc, Burn Burn. The band was just in the midst of kicking off the supporting tour of their 7th studio disc release, when I caught up with him. We talked about a variety of things before the band hit the stage, to what could of easily been a sell out crowd had it not been for the fact they were playing at the Molson Canadian Canal Concert Series in Lockport, NY. Which is a free series of concerts put on every summer by the town, hosted by a variety of sponsors, with a long list of great famous bands. Our Lady Peace was kicking off this season's series, and what a way to start off a summer! Even Maida and fellow bandmates were surprised at the amount of fans that had turned out for the band's performance that evening. Free tickets or not the band did not fail to deliver, they gave 125% and if you are lucky enough to catch them on this tour..don't miss the chance! In case you were wondering, for the record, the sky never did open that night, but we did get all the *rain* we could ask for!

R.I.P Les Paul

By   Fri, Aug 14, 2009

R.I.P Les Paul

EMI Music joins the rest of the world in mourning the legendary musician, inventor and innovator, Les Paul, who passed away at the age of 94. The flag atop the Capitol Records tower in Hollywood has been lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Paul, one of EMI Music's most legendary and innovative recording artists, who first signed with Capitol Records in 1948 and was instrumental in the development of both the Capitol label and Capitol Studios.

Born Lester William Polsfuss in Waukesha, Wisconsin on June 9, 1915, Les Paul was one of the foremost influences on 20th Century sound as one of America's most popular, influential, and accomplished electric guitarists, as well as an early innovator in the development of the solid body guitar. His groundbreaking design would become the template for Gibson's best-selling electric, the Les Paul model, introduced in 1952. Today, countless musical legends still consider Paul's iconic guitar unmatched in sound and prowess. Among Paul's most enduring contributions are those in the technological realm, including ingenious developments in multi-track recording, guitar effects, and the mechanics of sound in general.

Les Paul signed with Capitol Records in 1948. His Capitol recordings garnered him a string of hits, notably 1948's "Brazil," with its six multi-tracked guitar parts, "Vaya Con Dios," and 1951's million-sellers "Mockin' Bird Hill" and "How High the Moon."

1949 saw the birth of "The Les Paul Show" on radio, and by year's end Paul and his frequent musical collaborator, Mary Ford, had married. Between recordings and broadcasts, Paul found time to invent a synthesizer and an effects-generating machine he dubbed the "Les Paulverizer," a wacky contraption that is wittily depicted in Paul and Ford's classic CBS Radio-hosted banter as a beast-like appendage, heavily strapped to the back of its user. Since then, the technology of the "Les Paulverizer" has been put to use every day by producers and musicians from every genre, from classical to punk rock.

When Capitol Records' famous Vine Street building was being built in Hollywood, with its unique "stacked records" design, Paul joked that the idea of a round building was wholly impractical, because it lacked a corner in which to prop a broom. As the final touches were being put on Capitol's new studios, Paul visited and consulted on the design of the studios' now-legendary subterranean echo chambers.

Paul retreated from recording in the late 1970s, turning his focus to live performance, a weekly ritual he enjoyed at New York City's Iridium Jazz Club until his recent hospitalization. Over the years, other world-famous musicians often sat in for a song or two during Paul's two Monday night sets, including Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett and Keith Richards, and Paul also encouraged aspiring players who toted their guitars to his shows, selecting them from the audience to join him onstage for a song.

In 2005, celebrating his 90th birthday, Paul released Les Paul & Friends: American Made World Played with Capitol/EMI, featuring collaborations with a veritable who's who of the electric guitar, including dozens of illustrious fans like Keith Richards, Buddy Guy, Billy Gibbons, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Joe Perry. Les Paul won two Grammy Awards for tracks on the album, for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

Les Paul and Mary Ford were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1977, and Paul was honored with The Recording Academy's Trustees Award in 1983. In 2001, when he earned his fifth Grammy award for his technical achievements, Hillel Resner of Mix Online wrote, "If the music industry has a Ben Franklin, surely that man is Les Paul." In 1988, Paul was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Smithsonian Institution has honored Paul with the John Smithson Bicentennial Medal, and in 2008, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame paid tribute to Paul with a week-long celebration of his life.

Les Paul is survived by his three sons Lester (Rus) G. Paul, Gene W. Paul and Robert (Bobby) R. Paul, his daughter Colleen Wess, son-in-law Gary Wess, long time friend Arlene Palmer, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be held in New York. A service in Waukesha, WI will be announced at a later date. Details will follow and will be announced for all services. Memorial tributes for the public will be announced at a future date.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Les Paul Foundation, 236 West 30th Street, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001.

Incubus Concert Review 8-21-09

WOW IS THE ONLY WORDS TO EXPLAIN THE SHOW FROM INCUBUS!!!

This was the best show of my summer tours that I've seen, and I've been to tons this summer! So the night started off very rainey and didn't want to sit on the lawn so I lucked out and got PIT tickets at the box office. So the show started late also due to the tornado warnings in the area but they weren't going to let weather issues stop the show! The opening band was named The Duke Spirit. I couldn't get into the band but the singer was talented and was an amazing girl frontwoman.

Incubus then hit the stage at 9:30 and they started the set with the hit "Pardon Me" which lifted the band to popularity and they were on fire! The crowd was loud during every song of the night and the set consisted of hits and the lesser known songs by the band. Brandon Boyd is an amazing singer live and in the studio, His voice is powerful and awesome! They would soon get into the song "Nice To Know You" which was another crowd favorite. The 21 song set including an acoustic set lasted an hour and 45 minutes. The acoustic set included popular songs "Drive","Dig", and "Make Yourself" and this was probably one of the best parts of the concert.

Later on in the show songs like "Are You In?","Oil & Water",and the lesser known song "Under My Umbrella" were the loudest receptions of the night for the band, But the most exciting song of the night was during "Wish You Were Here" and you know how during slower songs the fans start bringing out the lighters? Well during the song some guy handed out sparklers through out the pit and everyone started lighting them up! It was amazing and probably the best part on the show, you could tell the band were surprised but really happy. They then would play "Aqueous Transmission" before they left the stage but just to come back out for the 3 song encore. The encore included Japanese import song "Punch Drunk","Light Gernades" and a Prince Cover of "Lets Go Crazy"

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan Reinforces Importance of the Arts in Schools

By   Wed, Aug 19, 2009

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan Reinforces Importance of the Arts in Schools
The NAMM Foundation announced that it hosted a live, public teleconference today with U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan to discuss his recent letter sent to school and education community leaders outlining the importance of the arts as a core academic subject in U.S. public schools.

More than 1.75 million national music and arts education advocates were encouraged via a national network of coalitions to participate in the call to hear Duncan express his concerns about access to arts education in U.S. public schools, and how these programs can be supported in the future.

The call was initiated after Duncan issued a letter last week to school and education community leaders stating, "At this time when you are making critical and far-reaching budget and program decisions for the upcoming school year, I write to bring to your attention the importance of the arts as a core academic subject and part of a complete education for all students. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) defines the arts as a core subject, and the arts play a significant role in children's development and learning process. . ."

"The arts can help students become tenacious, team-oriented problem solvers who are confident and able to think creatively," he stated. "These qualities can be especially important in improving learning among students from economically disadvantaged circumstances. However, recent National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) results found that only 57 percent of eighth graders attended schools where music instruction was offered at least three or four times a week, and only 47 percent attended schools where visual arts were offered that often."

"Concerned citizens in cities, towns and communities should share this letter with state and local school leadership," said Mary Luehrsen, NAMM's director of public affairs and government relations and executive director of the NAMM Foundation, who moderated the call. "The Secretary has clearly stated that arts education is part of the core curriculum and is vital to a complete and quality education for all children. All of us need to work together to assure that all children have access to a complete education that includes high quality, standards-based learning in music and the arts."

The SupportMusic Coalition conference call also reiterated the points in Duncan's letter about how state and local actions can be reinforced to assure access to arts education.

Duncan reminded listeners that under the ESEA, states and local school districts have the flexibility to support the arts through Federal Title programs and U.S. Department of Education programs, including professional development of arts teachers as well as for strategic partnerships with cultural, arts and other nonprofit organizations. In addition, Duncan stated that local school districts can use funds under the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the arts along with other district expenses.

Duncan also outlined the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics' (NCES) next steps for supporting the arts as part of a well-rounded curriculum. These efforts include:

-- Conducting a survey to assess the condition of arts education in grades K-12. This fall, elementary and secondary principals will be asked about their schools' offerings in music, dance, theater, and visual arts. -- Surveying elementary classroom teachers next spring as well as music and visual arts specialists at the elementary and secondary levels about their programs and resources. -- Reporting findings from this comprehensive profile in early 2011, the first report like this since the 1999-2000 school year. The data is expected to help practitioners and policymakers make more informed decisions about arts education.

During the call, Duncan highlighted the series of music events at the White House that demonstrates the administration's ongoing efforts to stress the importance of arts education beginning with a Jazz Education workshop in June with 140 students from across the country. At the July White House event reinforcing the importance of arts education, he joined the President and First Lady in featuring country music artists Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley, who appears in a White House video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCvUy540I7o released today.

To view Secretary Duncan's letter, visit the U.S. Department of Education's Web site at www.ed.gov. The letter is also available along with the full transcript of today's teleconference at www.supportmusic.com.

People who are interested in finding out more about the resources available for supporting the arts in U.S. public schools are encouraged to visit the Department's Web site for arts education at http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oii/programs.html, or for more information and links to national, state and local organizations working together to keep music education strong, interested parties should visit www.supportmusic.com.

Alice In Chains New Album "Black Gives Way To Blue"

Alice in Chains are considered one of the pioneers of the "grunge" music scene. They came along with Nirvana,Pearl Jam,and Soundgarden all from Seattle, But Alice In Chains had a different sound than the other bands from the Grunge scene. They were a mix of heavy metal and acoustic elements and had the harmonized vocals of Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley.

During their successful years in the 90's Singer Layne Staley was dealing with drug abuse like no other, It stuck out the most during the recordings and tour for the album "Dirt" where most of the lyrics were about his addiction to heroin, "Dirt" is the bands most successful album to date. They later on released the Album titled "Alice in Chains" where it would be the last album to feature the voice of Layne Staley.

The Band had then went on hiatus in 1995 since Staley wouldn't clean up his act and later on through the years the world would then see the demise of Layne Staley. On April 19th 2002 the police went into Layne's condo after a friend reported she hadn't heard from him in two weeks, They would soon to find a dead Layne Staley with drug paraphonelia all around him, an autopsy was done and he had died from a speed ball(mixture of cocaine and heroin). They said he had been dead for two weeks and had only weighed 86 pounds.

In 2005 the remaining band members would reunite for a charity concert for the tsunami's that happend in southern Asia. They were joined by guest vocalists from several bands. They then had found vocalist William Duvall who critics label as a "Layne Staley" sound-a-like. They then would go on tour with Velvet Revolver in 2007 and with great reception from critics and fans they decided to do a new album. The album is entitled "Black Gives Way To Blue" and they have already released two singles to the radio and public "A Looking In View" And "Check My Brain". Both songs have been given the thumbs up and the single "A Looking In View" has made it's way to the billboard charts.

"Black Gives Way To Blue" release date is schedualed for September 29th!

Judas Priest/Whitesnake Concert 7-24-09

Judas Priest/Whitesnake Concert 7-24-09

Judas Priest played the Verizon Wireless Theater here in Houston and they brought friends....WHITESNAKE

Possibly one of the best shows I've seen in a while,Judas Priest Rocked the house dressed in RETRO British Steel Attire and Played the whole album plus some more. Whitesnake played a good hour set which I think they were the better band to me.

Whitesnake played about an hour and 15 minutes and then Priest played an Hour and a Half. This tour stop didn't feature band POP EVIL like most stops have had on this tour which was a relief for me because I dislike them alot.

Whitesnake came out and started off with a song from their newest album "Good To Be Bad" the song being "Best Years" which rocked the fucking house down! Coverdales vocals are spot on despite the rumors of him lip synching but you could tell he wasn't. Then into "Bad Boys" from the classic 1987 Self Titled album. The set contained hits, new songs, and some older Whitesnake that not alot of people may not know. They had a Ten Minute Guitar Duel between Rob Beach and Doug Aldrich which was none less than spectacular! Drummer Chris Fraizer also had a small solo in between "Crying In The Rain" which is another Classic Whitesnake Song. They wound up ending the set with 1o songs and the encore being the typical "Still Of The Night"

Set List

  1. Best Years
  2. Bad Boys
  3. Love Aint No Stranger
  4. Slow & Easy
  5. Lay Down You Love
  6. Guitar Duel
  7. Crying In The Rain(Includes Fraizer Drum Solo)
  8. Is This Love
  9. Give Me All You Love
  10. Here I Go Again
  11. Still Of The Night

Whitesnake is

  • David Coverdale-Vocals
  • Rob Beach-Guitar
  • Rob Aldrich-Guitar
  • Uriah Duffy-Bass
  • Chris Fraizer-Drums
  • Timothy Drury-Keys

from British Steel Era.... They started the set off with the British Steel album in its entirety,This seems like a trend for the summer tours now. This album is really damn good and it came out good live thirty years later. Rob Halford sounded pretty good for the most part but not really a crowd interacter, he mostly just stared at the ground or squinted his eyes. British Steel includes the hits "Breaking The Law, "Living After Midnight", and "Metal Gods".

After That they played some hits but also some RARE songs from a long time ago. "You've Got Another Thing Comin'","Victim of Changes" and "Prophecy" which is a song from their latest album "Nostradomus" just to name a few. Priest played 16 songs and the set is pretty much the same each night.

Judas Priest Is

  • Rob Halford-Vocals
  • Glenn Tipton-Guitar
  • KK Downing-Guitar
  • Ian Hill-Bass
  • Scott Travis-Drums
  1. Rapid Fire
  2. Metal Gods
  3. Breaking The Law
  4. Grinder
  5. United
  6. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise
  7. Living After Midnight
  8. The Rage
  9. Steeler
  10. The Ripper
  11. Prophecy
  12. Hell Patrol
  13. Victim Of Changes

Encore:

  1. Freewheel Burning
  2. Diamonds & Rust
  3. You've Got Another Thing Comin'

This show is a definate go see! Whitesnake doesn't come around the USA alot so I would say go see them now while they're out! Judas Priest was also good and you don't see them alot either even though they've been touring a shit load since the new album came out.

Matisyahu Joins Daniel Pearl World Music Days Honorary Committee

Matisyahu Joins Daniel Pearl World Music Days Honorary Committee

The Daniel Pearl Foundation today announced that Matisyahu, the multi-talented music sensation known for blending traditional Jewish themes with reggae, rock and hip hop, has joined the Daniel Pearl World Music Days Honorary Committee. Daniel Pearl World Music Days (www.danielpearlmusicdays.org) is a global network of performances that take place annually from October 1(st) to 31(st) to coincide with Daniel Pearl's October 10(th) birthday.

"Music transcends differences and inspires unity. Daniel Pearl understood that and used his music to build bridges across cultural divides and spread friendship," explained Matisyahu. "As a Daniel Pearl World Music Days Honorary Committee Member, I call upon musicians of all faiths and nationalities to join me in adding their voices to unite audiences around their shared humanity and ring the world in 'Harmony for Humanity.'"

Matisyahu (www.matisyahuworld.com) blends infectious melodies and intricate production with classic messages of hope, peace and understanding to create a sound that is undeniably his own. Few artists make an impact as complete as the one he made with his Top 40 crossover hit "King Without a Crown." Here was a true original, the song announced -- a Hasidic Jewish musician from New York City singing reggae songs about his religious devotion. Fans responded, driving Youth, Matisyahu's Grammy-nominated 2006 studio disc, to the top spot on Billboard's reggae albums chart. That album, as well as Matisyahu's previous recording Live at Stubb's, went Gold. Matisyahu will release Light on August 25 (Epic Records). Light finds the multi-talented musician from Crown Heights, Brooklyn displaying his one-of-a-kind voice in a variety of diverse genres, moving through his familiar reggae-soul stylings to dancehall, ska-inflected new wave, pop-rock and acoustic folk.

"We are deeply honored that Matisyahu has joined our distinguished World Music Days Honorary Committee," said Ruth Pearl, mother of Daniel Pearl and co-founder of the Daniel Pearl Foundation. "Danny's love of music spanned all genres and he understood the power of music to connect people beyond their differences. Matisyahu's message of hope, peace and understanding will broaden our outreach to fans and performers all over the world."

Since 2002, thousands of professional and amateur musicians have joined this expanding network of concerts to honor the legacy of journalist/musician Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal South Asia Bureau Chief, who was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan shortly after 9/11. These concerts commemorate Pearl's life and work by using the universal language of music to spread a message of hope, unity and "Harmony for Humanity." Other members of the World Music Days Honorary Committee include Herbie Hancock, R.E.M., Sir Elton John, Alison Krauss, Yo-Yo Ma, Ravi Shankar, Salman Ahmad, Yefim Bronfman, Theodore Bikel, Ida Haendel, Tania Libertad, Zubin Mehta, Itzhak Perlman, Mohammad Reza Shajarian, Steve Reich, Mark O'Connor, Russell Simmons, Barbra Streisand and John Williams.

Daniel Pearl World Music Days

World Music Days is an awareness-raising initiative, not a fund-raising program. There is no fee to participate. A simple registration of music event(s) at www.danielpearlmusicdays.org will confirm participation and allow participants to promote their event(s) worldwide.

Once events are registered, participation entails making a brief dedication from the stage, or in the printed program, in support of the "Harmony for Humanity" theme. Last year, artists at more than 1,000 concerts in 59 countries took part in this global initiative.

The Daniel Pearl Foundation

Daniel Pearl's kidnapping and murder by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 touched millions who never knew him. By developing innovative international programs focused on journalism, music and respectful dialogue, the Daniel Pearl Foundation seeks to counter the hatred and intolerance that took his life. Spotlight: The Summer Set

Spotlight: The Summer Set
Scottsdale, Arizona’s The Summer Set is here to keep the warm weather days going all year long with their sunny pop-punk songs.  The band formed in 2007, when brothers Stephen and John Gomez, still in high school at the time, decided to start a band with local friends Brian Dales, Jess Bowen and Josh Montgomery. Before they even graduated, the young band self-released their first two EPS and sold over 20,000 copies of both to date.  The Summer Set’s music has quickly created a large following for this young band with over 7.5 million plays and over 2 million profile views on MySpace.

The band’s first full length album, Love Like This (Razor & Tie), will hit stores on October 13th.  Produced by Matt Grabe (The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon), the album has additional production by Matt Squire (3OH!3, Taking Back Sunday, Panic at the Disco) and also features a track co-written with Dave Katz  and Sam Hollander (Metro Station, Boys Like Girls, and Gym Class Heroes).     The infectious sound of The Summer Set’s power hooks, swirling synth lines, and catchy lyrics is apparent on the first single “Chelsea,” which will be available on iTunes on September 1st .

The Summer Set has toured with bands including Sing It Loud, We Shot The Moon, Everybody Else, Mercy Mercedes, The Pink Spiders.   The band is currently on tour with The Cab through August 9th, and will head out this Fall in support of Cartel (tour dates below).  Pre-sale starts on August 10th , Public sale on August 14th.

BUSY FALL FOR BUCKCHERRY!

BUSY FALL FOR BUCKCHERRY!

Buckcherry are keeping things busy this
fall by releasing an enhanced version of Black Butterfly on September 8,
their first live album, LIVE & LOUD 2009 on September 29 and embarking upon
a North American arena tour with the legendary KISS.

The new edition of BLACK BUTTERFLY, which was made available to iTunes and
other digital service providers in June, includes "Highway Star," the theme
song for TNT's NASCAR coverage as well as the super-sized video, which
intercuts NASCAR footage with the band's performance. BLACK BUTTERFLY was
released in September of last year and brought the band their first Top 10
album debut, landing at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 chart (the highest
debuting rock album of the week).  It has also earned the titles of Album of
the Year by Entertainment Weekly and Best Rock Album by iTunes critics in
2008, has produced two multi-format rock hits and recently spurred the most
added track at active rock radio with the fourth single, "Talk To Me," off
of the acclaimed album.

LIVE & LOUD 2009 will feature the band's biggest hits like "Sorry" (#2 on
Billboard's Hot AC chart), "Crazy Bitch" (#3, Mainstream Rock), "Lit Up"
(#1, Mainstream Rock), "Ridin'" (#9, Mainstream Rock) and "Everything" (#5,
Active Rock).  The new live album will also feature songs from the band's
current release Black Butterfly.

This fall, Buckcherry will tour with KISS on a trek being routed through
www.eventful.com/KISS.  The site allowed
fans to vote at the website to "demand" what cities they want to see the
tour hit.  More than 8,000 cities and towns were represented on the
fan-submitted list. Tour dates will be announced shortly and will be
available on www.Buckcherry.com.

Born at Woodstock? 40th Anniversary of Famous Music Festival

Born at Woodstock? 40th Anniversary of Famous Music Festival

It was 40 years ago this August that approximately 500,000 young people made a statement to the world while enjoying 3 days of peace, love and music at what Rolling Stone Magazine would describe as "the greatest event in rock music history".

Despite harsh weather, lack of facilities and a shortage of medical care, legend suggests that 2 young women gave birth at the festival. Eyewitness accounts support the births, and singer John Sebastian is captured on film reporting a birth to the crowd.

Now that these two mysterious individuals are about to celebrate their 40th birthday, a Chicago area concert promoter has launched a worldwide search, and has invited them to step forward and be recognized.

Still Rockin' Productions of Joliet, IL, is hosting a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of that monumental music festival. www.stillrockinproductions.com

Billed as The Heroes of Woodstock, several artists who performed at the original 1969 festival will rock the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA on August 16 at 6pm. The scheduling of this anniversary concert was designed to coincide with the actual date in 1969, as it is quite possibly the Woodstock babies' actual birthday.

"It would be a wonderful tribute to the Woodstock generation if these two individuals would come out of anonymity and be recognized for their 40th birthday", said Dale Thomas, President of Still Rockin' Productions.

The Woodstock babies are asked to provide documentation of their place and date of birth which will be independently researched.

If they choose to be found, they will be honored on stage at the concert and treated to a 'happy birthday' greeting sung by Jefferson Starship, Canned Heat, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Ten Years After, Country Joe McDonald and other 1969 Woodstock veterans. A package of product endorsement offers also awaits the lucky original hippies.

Will they step forward or remain a legend of that epic gathering in 1969?

"If they are out there, what better time to come forward than on your 40th birthday", said Thomas.

For more information surrounding the Woodstock 40th Anniversary, visit www.theheroesofwoodstock.com.

Getting Your Band Signed To Roadrunner Records Just Got Easier...

Getting Your Band Signed To Roadrunner Records Just Got Easier...

The new media department at Roadrunner Records have been busy in the laboratory over the past 8 months working on a brand new website designed to make submissions of recorded demos easier for bands hoping to one day get signed to our record label.

At this website, you can join as an ARTIST and upload your best material.

SCOUTS who join can then rate, review and comment the music you submit.

Roadrunner's A&R department will be looking at all of this material every day - listening to submissions and occasionally rating and reviewing songs themselves.

That website is signmeto.roadrunnerrecords.com.

Come to signmeto and check out the hundreds of cool, interesting, cutting-edge and...yes...totally lame bands that have uploaded music to the site. And if you are one of the bands involved - we have nearly 200 new scouts joining daily, so there are plenty of opportunities to get your material reviewed.

It is early days for signmeto, and there are still a lot of improvements that have to be made. We hope for your patience. Jon Satterley, Senior Vice President of New Media, has started a new blog at the regular RR website to discuss, on a weekly basis, the updates, fixes, changes and roadmap for the signmeto website. Check it out here.

Feedback is welcome at the comments area of the blog, and also by using our getsatisfaction feedback widget to the left of every web page at signmeto.

Woodstock Helped Us Get Through 'Nam

Woodstock Helped Us Get Through 'Nam

Award-winning author and Vietnam veteran Tim O'Brien has revealed the role music played in the lives of American GIs serving in Vietnam and how the Woodstock festival boosted their morale. In an interview published as part of a limited edition box set entitled Woodstock Experience, he says:

TIM O'BRIEN: "To know there were all these people who felt the same about it as I felt, as I was in it... It felt good. Music helped us bounce to that war. It gave us a soundtrack. One of my strongest recollections of Vietnam - over all the horror and dead people, even stronger than those memories - is the memory of the whole company of us, 100 men, shifting across the rice paddies, right before dusk had settled in and the whole company singing 'Hey Jude'. 'Anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude refrain, don't carry the world upon your shoulders...' That's what the world felt like to us. We were carrying the whole damn war on our shoulders."

O'Brien, a pioneer of 'creative non-fiction', first won literary acclaim for his 1973 memoir If I Should Die In A Combat Zone and, in 1990, his book The Things They Carried was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His work is famous for its conscious confusion of fact and fiction on the premise that art illuminates reality.

TIM O'BRIEN: "Songs like 'White Rabbit' by Jefferson Airplane. I can remember listening to that song in a rice paddy in the middle of nowhere. It captured that hallucinatory, upside-down, inside out, distorted feeling of the war we were fighting. It wasn't about the war but it was how the war felt. You fell down a rabbit hole and all the old values were upside down: thou shalt not kill became you should kill, you better kill. I felt like a white rabbit and so did a lot of the guys with me, just falling down this rabbit hole of war."

"While you're there your thoughts aren't of global communism and containment, they're about that rice paddy and that tree line and this gun in my hand."

Tim O'Brien's interview is published as part of a limited edition multimedia boxed set, Woodstock Experience, from UK-based publishers Genesis Publications. Celebrating the iconic music festival's 40th anniversary, the set approaches the cultural, musical and historical importance of Woodstock from a number of different angles. Tim O'Brien's position is clear:

TIM O'BRIEN: "In the end 'Nam was the centre of Woodstock. If there wasn't a war called Vietnam going on, recollections of Woodstock would be truly different - it would be one more jamboree. Because there was a war that the music was bouncing off, it made it an important social event in the history of this country."

"What's really cool is that, all these years later, after Woodstock and after 'Nam, the music endures. Somehow that's a kind of revenge. Who remembers the names of the admirals and the generals? Very few people, but the music endures."

Woodstock Experience is a two-volume boxed set limited to just 1,000 copies worldwide. Volume One is the definitive oral history of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, in which nearly 70 contributors share their personal memories of the world's most iconic music festival. Contributors include Graham Nash, David Crosby, John Sebastian, Arlo Guthrie, Joe Cocker, The Band and Ravi Shankar, as well as audience members, photographers, artists and Woodstock producers Artie Kornfeld and Joel Rosenman. Woodstock's Executive Producer, Michael Lang, is also the project's Executive Editor and, along with his own story, provides letters, notes, contracts and more from his personal archive.

Volume Two features the previously unseen photographs of the late Dan Garson, taken as a 17-year old student. In addition there are loose-leaf essays, a specially pressed vinyl record featuring Santana and Jefferson Airplane live at Woodstock, a facsimile hand-drawn site map, a fine-art print by legendary Sixties artist Peter Max, and an original festival ticket with every set. This collection of artefacts is housed in a three-part folding box featuring two specially created screen-printed artworks by the world's leading graphic designer, Shepard Fairey.

Only 1,000 of these boxed sets are available worldwide, each one signed by both Michael Lang and Arlo Guthrie.

Woodstock Experience signed by Michael Lang and Arlo Guthrie - the limited edition box set of 1,000 copies, is available only through Genesis Publications: www.genesis-publications.com; tel: +44(0)1483 540970; price: £395.

Life After Rockstar:Supernova

By   Mon, Jun 29, 2009

Life After Rockstar:Supernova

Merriam-Webster defines supernova as:

     a.  The explosion of a star in which the star may reach a maximum intrinsic luminosity one billion times that of the sun.

     b.  One that explodes onto prominence or popularity; also; superstar

The first definition can be used when you take 3 mega stars and join them together in one band.  An explosion of talent that came together in the form of Gilby Clarke, Jason Newsted and Tommy Lee.  That band?  Supernova.

The second definition can be used when you take 15 singers and give them the chance to audition to front a montage of musicians already at scorching superstar caliber.  The result?  Rockstar: Supernova.

Following the form of the first season, the contestants chose the songs they would cover, fighting for the chance at times to share the stage with Gilby, Tommy, Jason or Dave Navarro.   Unlike season one, they also had the chance to rock a Supernova song with band starting during week 7.  Dilana Robichaux was the first contestant to be chosen for that honor.  Another striking similarity between the two seasons was that both times the final five came down to three men and two women, but in season two, a woman would crack the  final two.

In taking a look at life after Rockstar:Supernova, Road Crew Magazine brings to light the careers of Storm Large, Magni Asgeirsson, Toby Rand, Dilana Robichaux and Lucas Rossi.

storm #5 Storm Large

Although some of Storm's performances, such as her rendition of Gloria Gaither's I Will Survive, brought harsh criticisms from Supernova and Dave, (which in turn brought boos from the crowd), her sultry voice and her energetic stage presence took her all the way to the final five.  In week 10, she performed her original song Ladylike, which would hit #5 on Billboard's Hot 100.

While she didn't become the lead singer for Supernova, she was booked alongside fellow competitor Magni Asegirsson to be the opening act for Supernova's 2007 tour, but due to financial reasons, both she and Magni were cut from the bill.

Since the show, Storm has made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, performed the Star-Spangled Banner both on the ESPN's The Contender and at NBA's Portland Trail Blazer's opening home game of the 2006-07 season.  She is also still rockin the stage with her band Storm and the Balls and can be found on her official website, myspace, and on facebook.

magni #4 Magni Asgeirsson

Magni Asgeirsson, aka Ice Man joined the Rockstar cast, leaving behind family and friends in his native country of Iceland to throw his hat into the ring and battle it out, trying to become the voice of Supernova.

With captivating covers of Coldplay's Clocks, Jimi Hendrix's Fire and a crowd pleasing original song entitled When The Time Comes, Magni fought his way into the final four before saying goodbye.  Upon returning home to Iceland, an estimated crowd of 8,000 people welcomed the singer home.

Today, Magni is signed with Spectra Records, fronting his native band, Á móti sól, who is currently working on their 8th album, and will be playing the 5th annual Bræðslan Music Festival the last weekend of July, '09.

For more info, you can check out Magni on myspace and facebook.

toby #3 Toby Rand

Toby Rand took to the Rockstar stage becoming an instant favorite with the crowds and made huge impressions on Supernova as well.  The Australian singer brought electricity to the sets and made a native phrase "Evs", meaning "whatever", a household term.

Toby had the highest number of encore performances out of all of the contestants; week 2 with Somebody Told Me, week 9 with Rebel Yell, and in week 10 with his original song Throw It Away, in which he performed in the memory of the late Steve Irwin who had passed away that week.  But while his connection with the crowd was second to none, Toby would only reach third in the competition, to the disappointment of many.

Since the show, Toby has rejoined his native band Juke Kartel, who opened for Nickelback and Seether during their recent Australian tour as well as released their debut album, Nowhere Left To Hide, in April of 2009.

dilana #2 Dilana Robichaux

Dilana Robichaux took command of the rockstar stage, bringing her smoky vocals and a stage presence that was undeniably spectacular.  Unafraid to fight for songs she wanted, at one point during the competition she dared Toby to run around the pool naked for a song.  Toby in turn laid the same dare to her, in which she rose to the challenge for the song she was fighting for.

She captivated the judges, the crowd and the viewers week after week with her brilliant covers of songs like Nirvana's Lithium, The Cranberries Zombie, The Police's Roxanne and Tracy Bonham's Mother Mother.  But despite being a dominating factor, Dilana would only make it to the runner up position in the competition.

Since the shows end, Dilana is still rocking music lovers who are there for her with open arms.  In 2008, she signed with Hurricane Records and recorded her album Darklight.  Sadly, not only would the album not be released by Hurricane, Dilana herself was released from her contract due to the label shutting down.

Dilana keeps her fans updated through myspace, facebook, her official website, and twitter with posts about her upcoming shows and events and what's going on with her.

Her current single Hangover was released on June 9th, 2009 and can be found on iTunes.

lucas Rockstar: Supernova Winner Lucas Rossi

From it's season opener, to it's finale, one of the fan favorites worldwide was Lucas Rossi.  The Canadian singer never found himself in the bottom three, facing elimination until week 10.  He continued to gain praise from fans and supernova alike covering songs such as Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve, Creep by Radiohead and his original song Headspin.

At the show's finale, he stood side by side with Dilana awaiting the band's decision, who made the announcement they had to go with the fans, who gave the majority of the votes to Lucas.

I had the opportunity to ask Lucas a few questions about his life after Rockstar:Supernova.

Road Crew:  What was the transition like, changing from playing club type venues to arenas?

Lucas:  Awesome, I thought it was unbelievable to play for almost 7 thousand people a night. Quite overwhelming.

Road Crew:  What was it like touring and performing with such high caliber musicians like Tommy, Jason and Gilby?

Lucas:  It was rad and very humbling to say the least although Jason didn't not make the tour due to injuries. We had Johnny Clot play bass. He was the Black Crows bassist.  He was sooooo cool me and him became very close.

Road Crew: How did the end come for Supernova and who informed you the band was breaking up?

Lucas:  I wanted to move on and do my solo project"stars down" and explore different avenues.

Road Crew:  What direction did your career take once the bad was officially dissolved?

Lucas:  I started touring with my acoustic guitar because I thought it was very important to show the fans that i wasn't a one trick pony and I wasn't just the winner of a television show

Road Crew: Since Supernova, what has been your greatest challenge as a musician?

Lucas:  The biggest challenge has been maintaining my life as a musician. Paying my bills from constant touring , working at it everyday ,writing a song or two a day, trying to be the best every single day ,keeping tight with the fans and loving and respecting how much time they all take to love and support me always.  My fans rock big time :)

Road Crew: How did you go about putting together your current band Stars Down, and how did you come about the band's name?

Lucas: I met the fine gentlemen at a benefit concert for the voices of Uganda and we all hit it off. German Briseno, the bass player I knew prior to the benefit. The name means bringing yourself back to reality and and being lost in your own black hole or ego.  For me at least. Ha

Road Crew:  Do you have any current tour plans or CD release?

Lucas:  Soon, very soon.

THE USED ANNOUNCE TWITTER LISTENING PARTY

By   Fri, Aug 28, 2009

THE USED ANNOUNCE TWITTER LISTENING PARTY

On Monday August 31st THE USED will rock the Twitter-sphere with the FIRST EVER 24-hour tweet-for-ticket album listening party for fans.  The admission? ONE TWEET GETS YOU IN. Built by Culture Jam Labs and Warner Bros Records, the virtual listening party for Artwork, the new album from The Used, will give fans the chance to stream the entire album in exchange for one tweet on the release date.  The listening party will be hosted exclusively on http://twitter.theused.net/.

Fans can enter this exclusive album listening party by turning their social Twitter updates into digital currency – essentially purchasing a ticket to the event with one tweet by tweeting the suggested message “You can listen to the new @wearetheused album #Artwork today for 24 hours only at http://twitter.theused.net/. ONE TWEET GETS YOU IN.”

Once inside the listening party, fans can stream Artwork in its entirety, see other fans participating in the listening party, and be some of the first to purchase the album on itunes, Rhapsody or TheUsed.net.  As a special bonus, fans will also be able to stream two B-sides, “On The Cross” (Save Yourself Mix), and “In A Needle” along with the album.

Artwork is the fourth studio album from Reprise Records artists The Used.  Early critical acclaim for the Matt Squire-produced Artwork has been effusive.  Outburn (which the band currently graces the cover of) praised its “humbling ability to sound scrappy and raw while being perfectly polished and huge,” while Alternative Press states "The Used have delivered not only the definitive album of their career but arguably one of the best records you'll hear in 2009. 4 ½ stars."

THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION - ROD STEWART 1969-1978

By   Wed, Aug 26, 2009

THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION - ROD STEWART 1969-1978
The first single disc compilation to include all of Rod Stewart's biggest hits and most significant recordings of the '70s, the 16-selection The Definitive Collection - Rod Stewart 1969-1978 (Mercury/UMe), released August 31, 2009, brings together his best on both the Mercury and Warner Bros. labels for the first time. One of the era's greatest singers, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Stewart today remains a rock icon.

In 1969, post-Jeff Beck Group and while still in Faces, Stewart signed a solo deal with Mercury. His self-titled debut that year included "Handbags And Gladrags." The following year, the Top 40 "Gasoline Alley" was the title track of his second album, which also featured covers of Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now" and Elton John's "Country Comfort." But his breakthrough was fueled the next year: Every Picture Tells A Story was the first album to simultaneously reach #1 in the U.S. and U.K. Its gold #1 "Maggie May" b/w a cover of Tim Hardin's "Reason To Believe" also achieved that same double. Adding "Mandolin Wind," a soulful cover of the Temptations' "(I Know) I'm Losing You" and the title track, Every Picture Tells A Story became one of the most beloved albums of the day.

1972's Never A Dull Moment, with "You Wear It Well," "I'd Rather Go Blind," Jimi Hendrix's "Angel" and "Twistin' The Night Away," Stewart's tribute to Sam Cooke, reached #2 U.S. Following 1974's Smiler, his fifth Mercury disc, Stewart exited for Warner Bros. and also moved to Los Angeles.

In 1976, he topped the charts for eight weeks with the gold ballad "Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)" from his second Warners album, A Night On The Town, which went to #2 and platinum. 1977's Foot Loose & Fancy Free reached #2 as well but was triple platinum, thanks to the gold #4-charting "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)." The next year's triple platinum #1 Blondes Have More Fun...Or Do They? scored with the platinum #1 disco anthem "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?"

Though Stewart had his ups and downs for some time thereafter, most recently he's enjoyed an extraordinary renaissance with his Great American Songbook series. Yet the decade of the '70s surely marked the apex of his career, a decade captured on The Definitive Collection - Rod Stewart 1969-1978.

Entire Green Day Discography Released on Vinyl

Entire Green Day Discography Released on Vinyl

19 years ago, Green Day released their debut album entitled "1039/Smooth" on punk upstart label Lookout Records. Since then, they have undeniably become one of the most successful rock bands of our time. Nine albums later, the band released "21st Century Breakdown" to wide critical acclaim.

In anticipation of this latest release and the accompanying concert tour, Warner Brothers/Reprise decided to re-issue all previous Green Day releases on vinyl -including the band's vast collection of 7" singles. Warner/Reprise selected Furnace MFG to manufacture, assemble, and prep each title for retail-ready distribution.

Furnace was especially proud to work on two additional limited edition, direct-to-consumer, multi-disc sets during this process. The first was a comprehensive custom box set including all 21 of Green Day's 7" singles. The second was a multi-record set of "21st Century Breakdown", which broke out each of the three acts of this "punk rock opera" onto its own 10" record. This set was packaged in a hardbound cover containing a 60 page book and the complete retail CD.

"Working on this series has been especially exciting for me," relates Furnace MFG President, Eric Astor. "The first time I saw Green Day was in 1990. They played in a friend's living room in Tempe, Arizona and they completely blew us away! I've been a huge fan ever since". He adds, "It's a great feeling to know the same DIY work ethic that has made Green Day a huge success in the music business is also the reason why Furnace MFG is still standing strong today, after 13 years in business."

About Furnace MFG: In business since 1996, Furnace MFG is a recognized leader in CD and DVD duplication, replication, and vinyl record manufacturing and packaging.

The Cruxshadows Announce New Single "Quicksilver"

By   Tue, Aug 25, 2009

The Cruxshadows Announce New Single "Quicksilver"

Wishfire Records and MVD Audio are proud to announce the release of The Cruxshadows - Quicksilveron September 8th worldwide.

A year after the release of their third consecutive top 10 Billboard singleImmortal,The Cruxshadows are showing once again why they are an international leader in dark electronic music. Their new single Quicksilver is a hard hitting, dance floor dominating track with thought provoking lyricaldepth, compelling melodies, and a chorus that will stay with you long after the
music ends.

The Cruxshadows bring their signature blending of punchy guitar, counterpoint violins, and synthesizer based textures together with words that tie the music to your world. Quicksilver contains 3 versions of the title track, as well as two additional new songs - "Avalanche" and "Roland".

This is the first single released by the band's newly formed label, Wishfire Records. It was established to give the band the freedom they needed tofurfill their unique artistic vision. As The Cruxshadows vocalist and founder of Wishfire Records, Rogue comments:

"So much has changed in the music industry in the last few years. Bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails created a new paradigm that has forever altered things. Its now possible for us to reach our audience as never before, and still eliminate some of the difficulties associated with the traditional artist to label recipe. We are able to assume control of our own artistic direction. I think we are better able to understand and fulfill our potential as artists. Its streamlines the system and
puts power back in the hands of those that created the music."

http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102679956279&s=11306&e=001N0PPhbXPhUN-D_leClYor_feg73w4fPBFmjSvKmk4iq0FGjw7w06TTdKgmR9UIQOK0Gzc-lo5ZUavrRtFBFWPQJG7dk-VttLJWNFGitjketWSS8tWMRy_EZh0AxXi2_DM-P-GT0NuxzMBX2Z2hX7YWdQJG-4i1nF

To kick off the release of their new single, The Cruxshadows will be performing at
Dragon*Con 2009 (September 4 - September 7, 2009) - the largest multimedia, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US. Last year, their stage show drew over 10,000 frenzied fans.

The band's "Quicksilver Tour" started in Europe in August and highlights included an outdoor performance at Germany's Mera Luna Festival, as well as the Dutch Summer Darkness Festival.  Their upcoming shows in support of their new single will take them to the USA, South America, and back to Europe. So much of what the band does live is completely unique. With two electric violin players and trained ballerinas executing fully choreographed dancing, their live performances seems to be a bit like a three ring circus.

Ringleader and original founding member Roguebelieves that a major part of the bands popularity is the bands connection to their fans, and their outstanding live show. This year the band has been nominated for consideration in the prestigious LEA (Live Entertainment Awards) in Germany for
best live performing indie band in Europe

The Cruxshadows have also unveiled a new guitar player in Cassandra Luger, as well as some exciting change ups in the dancer department.

Def Leppard/Poison/Cheap Trick Review for 8-19-09

Def Leppard/Poison/Cheap Trick Review for 8-19-09

Def Leppard has been on the road the last month and this tour is the 10th most grossing tour according to the last box office numbers. The Tour is including Def Leppard, Poison, and Cheap Trick. Def Leppard is one of the biggest bands to come from the 80's with hits like "Photograph" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Poison is a group from the 80's and their popularity has been gained thanks to lead singer Bret Michaels reality show "Rock Of Love", their hits are "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Nuthin' But a Good Time". Cheap Trick is a band from the 70's and are a well established band with hits like "I Want You To Want Me" and "Surrender".

The Show started at 7PM and Cheap Trick Then hit the stage with a recorded intro. It's rare to find a band from that far back like Cheap Trick and they have all their original members in the band so it was really cool to see! Robin Zander was A++ on all the songs they played! They started the set with "Way of The World" an old classic song, then went straight into the fan favorite "I Want You To Want Me". Then from here on out Rick Nielson introduces the band and talks in-between every song. They also played "Sick Man Of Europe" and "These Days" from their latest album "The Latest". They played a short 45 minute set and were off right at 7:45.

1. Way of the World
2. I Want You To Want Me
3. These Days
4. She's Tight
5. Don't BE Cruel
6. Sick Man of Europe
7. Dream Police
8. The Flame
9. Surrender

After a 15 minute set change and it's 8PM Poison hits the stage with their very predictable set. Another band with all their original members and the band was tight. They started their set with "Look What The Cat Dragged In" and Bret sounded really bad so I figured he may just be rusty and will get better through out the night. They then went into "Ride The Wind" and Bret STILL sounded like crap, It was disappointing too because I've seen Poison before and they were one of the best live shows I've seen. He then went into thanking all the "Rock Of Love" fans and saying that there will be a new show on VH1 soon. The set was a greatest hits set and the same set they've been playing for a long time now. The band CC Deville, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rocket were on fire and did great but Bret was just terrible sounding. They played for an hour and were off at 9PM, I Kinda think that Cheap Trick and Poison should just swap spots on this tour because I think Cheap Trick is the Bigger and Better band.

  1. Look What The Cat Dragged In
  2. Ride The Wind
  3. Your Mama Don't Dance
  4. CC Guitar Solo
  5. Fallen Angel
  6. Something To Believe In
  7. Unskinny Bop
  8. Rikki Rocket Drum Solo
  9. Every Rose Has Its Thorn
  10. Talk Dirty To Me
  11. Nuthin' But A Good Time

30 Minute set change and at 9:30 PM the lights go off and a video popped up on the screen with a visual history of Def Leppard and a guitar solo playing with it. The band comes out and started the set with "Rock Rock! (Til You Drop)" from their "Pyromania" album and this came as a surprise to me, they then would go into a fan favorite and a favorite of mine too "Rocket". This band is just amazing live and Joe sounded great along with the band who is always just spectacular. This set list is also just pretty much a greatest hits set but heard some songs I didn't hear the first time and also 1 song from their latest album "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge". Joe Elliot came out and thanks everyone for coming out and then asked if we'd want to join the band for a minute. Then you see Phil, Vivian, and Joe with acoustic guitars and break into an acoustic set. They go into "Two Steps Behind You" and then do most of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". The Last part of "Bringin On The Heartbreak" went into the electric version and after that the band played the instrumental song "Switch 625". "Switch 625" was awesome to hear live and Is one of the best instrumental songs. Next few songs were the big hits but also great live just because of the crowd singing along. The crowd was loud and also sold out.

  1. Rock Rock!(Til You Drop)
  2. Rocket
  3. Animal
  4. Cmon Cmon
  5. Foolin'
  6. Love Bites
  7. Rock On
  8. Two Steps Behind
  9. Bringin' On The Heartbreak
  10. Switch 625
  11. Hysteria
  12. Armageddon It
  13. Pour Some Sugar On Me
  14. Photograph
  15. Rock Of Ages
  16. Lets Get Rocked

Overall I would say people should go see this show, it's really a good show besides from what I saw from Poison. Get there early to check out the "great" Cheap Trick and Pick up their album "The Latest" in stores now.

Dandy Warhols, Robbie Krieger and 30 of Todays' Best Indie Bands Fight Global Warming

By   Fri, Aug 21, 2009

Dandy Warhols, Robbie Krieger and 30 of Todays' Best Indie Bands Fight Global Warming
This year's lineup includes performances by The Dandy Warhols, Robbie Krieger (Of The doors), Jay Aston (of Gene Loves Jezebel), The Morning After Girls + many of Los Angeles's top local bands such as Gram Rabbit, Spindrift, Sky Parade as well as top bands from around the country. The three day event will showcase some 30 bands on 3 different stages with an incredible desert town serving as the festival backdrop. http://www.cleanairclearstars.com

Clean Air Clear Stars began in response to the "Sawtooth" fires of 2006 which devastated som 61,000 acres in and around the small town of Pioneertown in the Joshua tree desert region of Southern California. Scientists who study the region concluded that increased levels of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and nitric oxide contributed to the prevalence of a ground cover weed called Red Brome which allowed the fire to sweep fiercely across the desert plains. "Being a destination point to escape from city life, many of us were alarmed to learn that this fire which destroyed so many homes and businesses was linked directly to Global Warming." said co-founder of CACS, Tommy Dietrick.

Tommy and his CACS partner, Jason Anchondo, make it no secret that this event is not your run of the mill corporate event. " We ask all of our friends to donate their performance to the cause. None of the bands are paid and the money we raise is donated to Global Inheritance, a registered 501c non profit agency."said Jason ( http://www.globalinheritance.org). Relying on the kindness of vendors and the willingness for small businesses and individuals to donate, the Clean Air Clear Stars Festival offers a feeling of community and shared responsibility.

While admission to the event this year is free, festival goers are asked to make a donation at the door. Camping is available and campsites can be purchased at the door for $15 per tent. Hotels in the area tend to book up quickly so parties interested in renting a room must act early.

Biggest ZOMBIE Movie of All Time Sets 3D Premiere at Legendary Rocker Johnny Ramone's Memorial Tribute

Biggest ZOMBIE Movie of All Time Sets 3D Premiere at Legendary Rocker Johnny Ramone's Memorial Tribute

The original 1968 version of the mother of all zombie films, George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead", has risen from the dead -- literally -- as the film's 3D conversion is complete and its world premiere is now set. San Diego based 3D producer PassmoreLab, in conjunction with the Johnny Ramone Army, has confirmed that the World Premiere of the movie will take place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, 2009, as a part of the 5th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute.

Ramones' guitarist Johnny Ramone created the enduring template for punk rock guitar. With his blazing power chords and brutal licks energizing Ramones' classics like "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Rockaway Beach" and "Sheena is a Punk Rocker", Johnny inspired generations of punk bands until his untimely death from prostate cancer in 2004, at age 55. His annual tribute, now in its fifth year and attended by thousands of fans, takes place at the foot of his 8 ft. memorial bronze statue inside the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

"Johnny was a huge horror movie buff, and 'Night of the Living Dead' was one of his top ten horror film favorites of all time. We've started a tradition screening some of Johnny's favorite movies, paired in a double feature with vintage Ramones concerts each year at the annual tribute," said John Cafiero, Chief of Staff of the Johnny Ramone Army. "We are working with PassmoreLab on another project, and it was just great timing and a perfect fit to show 'Night of the Living Dead 3D' for the very first time at the tribute. You couldn't ask for a better setting… It's going to be spectacular."

"Night of the Living Dead", originally shot in black and white over 40 years ago, was painstakingly restored, colorized and converted, frame by frame into full 3D using Passmorelab's proprietary technology. The process, which took over 12 months to complete at a cost greater than the film's original production budget, was no small feat.

"I am a huge fan of this movie, and so it had to be done with complete precision," said Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab. "We love the genre and as cult classics go, this is mother of them all. If you are going to convert a horror classic, this is the one you want to see in 3D."

"Night of the Living Dead" is perhaps one of the greatest low budget cult movies ever made and is certainly one of the most influential. Its brutally harrowing documentary-style shooting can be seen in many latter-day films including "The Blair Witch Project" and "Cloverfield", which earned hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide, respectively.

"Night of the Living Dead" was #9 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments and #4 on Johnny Ramone's top ten list of horror movies. In 2001, the American Film Institute (AFI) named the film to a list of 100 important thrillers.

"We think fans of the film, young and old, will really like zombies in 3D," said Steve Glum, PassmoreLab's head of Branding & Distribution. "For the purists out there, this is the original film, converted into 3D for everyone to enjoy again, but now in 3D for the first time. The fact that we are premiering it at the cemetery will just add to the history of the film and its enduring legacy as one of the greatest of all time."

The World Premiere of "Night of the Living Dead 3D" and the Johnny Ramone Tribute event are open to the public for a $10 per person minimum donation entrance fee with net proceeds benefiting the Johnny Ramone prostate cancer research fund at USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center lead by Dr. David Agus. Gates for the event will open at 5:30pm, and picnic dinners, drinks (including alcohol), pillows, blankets and small chairs are permitted. Attendees of the event will get free commemorative 3D glasses upon entering. Celebrity guest speakers will be in attendance and autograph signings will be scheduled with sole surviving founding member, Ramones drummer & producer Tommy Ramone, and youngest member CJ Ramone. Rare memorabilia will be exhibited along with an art show (curated by Barbara Ramone), of original paintings by the legendary Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who will receive special homage at the event, as well. Opening featurettes include animated music videos from the Johnny Ramone Army and Osaka Popstar, presented for the first time anywhere in 3D by PassmoreLab. The evening concludes with a vintage Ramones concert shot in 1977 entitled "Its Alive" and the world premiere of "Night of the Living Dead 3D".

"Johnny felt this movie was shot amazingly and looked genuinely scary," said Linda Ramone, wife of the legendary guitarist. "He would have been thrilled that the 3D version of the original 'Night of the Living Dead' had its world premiere at his tribute. He loved horror movies and he loved the polarized 3D exhibits, so experiencing one of his favorite films that way is something Johnny would have really enjoyed. It's perfect for the event."

"Night of the Living Dead 3D" can be seen in selected US theatres and in wide release in 3D theaters in Europe, starting in October. "Night of the Living Dead 3D" will be available in anaglyph DVD on Amazon.com by Christmas, and a 3D TV version will be available when 3D BluRay becomes commercially available.

LoveHateHero’s America Underwater In Stores Sept 29th

LoveHateHero’s America Underwater In Stores Sept 29th

LoveHateHero has just released two new songs on iTunes. “America Underwater” and “Echoes” will appear on America Underwater, the band’s long awaited 3rd album, due out September 29th on Ferret Records.

The LA four-piece joined the Vans Warped Tour last weekend and has been playing to enthusiastic crowds each day. Watch for them on the SmartPunk Stage throughout the remainder of the tour.

Ferret will launch the full album pre-order for America Underwater next week. Watch for full details later this week.

At the end of 2008, LoveHateHero felt like it was time to step outside the boundaries they had created for themselves with their previous efforts. After building a solid fan base with their first two albums, Just Breatheand White Lies, which they had supported by touring nationally with such acts as Chiodos, Funeral for a Friend, and Scary Kids Scaring Kids, the band, despite all its hard work, felt like it had not quite hit its stride.  Even after White Lies sold over 20,000 copies in the U.S. and drew the attention of magazines like Alternative Press and Outburn, something wasn’t quite right and they knew it.

While writing songs for their newest release America Underwater, the band retooled their sound. The result was a record that focuse
s more on their well-developed vocal melodies and cleanly polished hooks. Nearly reinventing itself as a whole, the group dropped a lot of the edginess from its songs, using it sparingly instead of as a crutch to rest on. For this release, “maturing as songwriters” wasn’t just a cliché.

“Everyone’s better at what they’re doing so we were able to get more creative,” singer Pierrick Berube explains. “The album still holds true to the band’s sound but adds so much more depth, while at the same time being a more care free album.

“I think we concentrated more on songwriting and the material, what the songs are about,” Pierrick continues. “We wanted everything to be a complete song instead of just parts that shredded or were heavy. We didn’t want each song to be random riffs, we wrote complete songs that are just good songs. We simplified it but opened it up with vocal harmonies and music melodies in a way that we could have more fun.”

Backed by a phenomenal team including platinum selling pop/rock producers Daniel James and Leah Haywood at Dreamlab Productions, Grammy nominated mixing genius Brian Paturalski (Aerosmith, Silverchair), and mastering guru Ted Jensen (Smashing Pumpkins,Nirvana, Tokio Hotel, etc.), this four piece from the City of Angels is guaranteed to inspire those fans who have loved them before and win over those who never gave them a chance.

“Our producers work with a lot of pop acts, but they’ve always had a love for rock & roll,” Pierrick states.  “It was a great learning experience to record with them.  They are excellent songwriters and are really knowledgeable about song structure and it helped us a lot.”

When LoveHateHero was finished recording, the band exited Dreamlab Productions with ten anthemic, pop-laced rock songs, powered by Pierrick’s signature vocals and Thrasher’s relentless guitar attack.  With Scot Gee (drums) and Paris Bosserman (bass) solidifying the rhythm section, the band steamrolls forward with more passion and fervor than ever before.

Dan Fogelberg's Last Songs Featured on His Final Album, Love In Time

By   Wed, Aug 19, 2009

Dan Fogelberg's Last Songs Featured on His Final Album, Love In Time
The first song on his first album began with strings, sustaining a hauntingly beautiful chord which faded into the song "To The Morning;" a song of hope invoking the day with the lyric, "There is really nothing left to say but 'come on, morning.'" "Birds", the last song on this, his last studio album, ends with the lyric, "It's over," and a similar sustained chord, fading to end the album. Long time fans, upon hearing the final chord of "Birds", have said they expected to hear "To The Morning" begin to play. And so the ending meets the beginning, "In a spiral never-ending".

In 2006, Dan Fogelberg, the renowned singer-songwriter whose career spanned three decades and helped define introspective ballads and the acoustic-based rock music of the '70s and '80s, completed the recordings for an album he titled Love In Time and put them in a safe deposit box. Diagnosed with cancer two years earlier, he had not performed since, and asked his wife Jean to release the album after his death. Fogelberg, at age 56, passed away on December 16, 2007. Released digitally on August 13, 2009, which would've been Fogelberg's 58th birthday, Love In Time (Full Moon/UMe) will finally be released physically to retail on September 22, 2009.

Filled with great melodies and heartfelt lyricism, Love In Time is lifted up by Fogelberg's versatile voice; at times soft and angelic, at times gravely and bluesy. Both a reflection of his beginnings and a testament to where his talent had taken him, the project began in 2003, before his diagnosis. While compiling material for a CD of live recordings, Fogelberg came upon several rough demos he had made earlier in his career. Inspired to finish them, he worked on the songs until May 2004, when he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

During his subsequent battle with cancer, he also recorded three completely new songs in 2005 -- "Come To The Harbor," written in Maine on his boat while waiting for his wife Jean to join him for a harbor dance; "Sometimes A Song", a Valentine for Jean; and "Birds", which he dedicated to her. They joined "Soft Voice," "So Many Changes," "A Growing Time," "The Colors Of Eve," "Diamonds To Dust," "Nature Of The Game," "Days To Come" and the title track to round out Love In Time, which Fogelberg produced, recorded, sequenced, and played all the instruments on. All of the tracks make their physical debuts on Love In Time; only "Sometimes A Song" has been previously released digitally, as a download on Valentine's Day 2008 to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Love In Time was preceded by 2003's Full Circle, his first studio album of original songs since 1993's River Of Souls. Celebrated by fans and acclaimed by critics, Full Circle was considered Fogelberg's return to the artistic heights he had previously scaled.

The Peoria-born Fogelberg was performing in coffeehouses around the University of Illinois when he was discovered. His 1972 debut album, Home Free, led to 1974's Joe Walsh-produced Souvenirs and stardom. Each of his first eight albums earned at least gold, with Souvenirs, Nether Lands (1977), Phoenix (1979) and The Innocent Age (1981) double platinum, and Captured Angel (1975) and Twin Sons Of Different Mothers (1978), featuring flutist Tim Weisberg, platinum. His 1982 Greatest Hits album went triple platinum.

He kicked off a string of 11 Top 40 Pop hits (four Top 10s) with "Part Of The Plan" and "The Power Of Gold," and included eight straight Adult Contemporary Top 10s among them, starting with the wedding standard "Longer" (#1/#2 Pop), and continuing with "Heart Hotels," "Same Old Lang Syne," "Hard To Say," "Leader Of The Band" (#1), "Run For The Roses," "Missing You" and "Make Love Stay" (#1). Fogelberg later scored four other AC Top 10s, including the #1 "Believe In Me."

With Love In Time, as his wife Jean has written: "His music continues -- a living legacy to one of the most versatile and talented musicians, singers, and songwriters of his generation."

"In a spiral never-ending are we drawn toward the source Spinning at the mercy of an unrelenting force So we stare into the emptiness and fall beneath the weight Circling the Nexus in a fevered dance with fate Wealthy the spirit that knows its own flight Stealthy the hunter who slays his own fright Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light"

This Day In Rock

Welcome back friends To This day in Rock. School Is getting started all around the country so keep an eye out for all the kiddos crossing the road. IK Multimedia Announces ARC System™ TDM

By   Mon, Aug 17, 2009

IK Multimedia Announces ARC System™ TDM

IK Multimedia is pleased to announce that ARC System is now available as a TDM plug-in for use within Digidesign®’s Pro Tools|HD Accel DAW platform. Now, Pro Tools owners with these systems can mix and master in a monitoring environment that is acoustically correct, and with zero latency, also allowing for tracking in the same corrected environment.

ARC System delivers the most advanced solution to studio acoustical problems combining a professionally calibrated microphone, standalone software that captures sound information and calculates proper room correction, and a plug-in that applies the correction once inserted on the Pro Tools master BUS.

ARC System features Audyssey’s revolutionary MultEQ® technology, which measures acoustical information throughout the listening area in your studio to provide an accurate representation of the room’s acoustical problems. The equalization solution then corrects for both time and frequency response problems more effectively and efficiently than any other room correction EQ on the market. The result is a clear and reliable representation of your mix, not only in the engineer’s “sweet spot” but also in multiple listening positions in the room.

Regardless of the acoustical issues in your studio, what you are recording, mixing or mastering becomes immediately clear and reliable and your studio sound will improve forever. The audible results and benefits of mixing with ARC System TDM will be:

·      Low-end alterations, typically added by small rooms, are removed with better low frequency control

·      More consistent frequency response across the entire range

·      Tonal balance is restored, allowing for more accurate mixes

·      Room defects will no longer capture your attention, allowing you to focus solely on the music while reducing ear fatigue

·      Work on mixes faster because you can be confident of what you’re hearing

·      Achieve greater consistency on your music productions

·      Zero latency allows for tracking in an acoustically correct environment which produces more accurate sonic and dynamic range

·      Produce mixes that better translate to the outside world on multiple listening devices

The ARC System TDM version features two plug-in formats: Stereo (supporting up to 48 kHz sample rate) or Multi-mono (supporting up to 96 kHz sample rate). For extra convenience, the ARC System TDM package also comes with native plug-in versions (including RTAS, VST and AU formats). The step-by-step setup measurement wizard will have you mixing in a corrected environment in minutes.

ARC system is also the most convenient, unique, mobile correction solution for the Pro Tools traveling engineer.  Now you can sonically ‘treat’ your room everywhere you go, so you can finally trust the sound of your monitoring environment and record, mix or master comfortably in a listening environment that you will always be familiar with.

Pricing & Availability:

ARC System TDM is now available from authorized IK Multimedia retailers, or online in the IK Multimedia store, in three different versions:

From The End Comes A New Beginning For Elvis & The Music On The 32nd Anniversary Of The King's Death

By   Mon, Aug 17, 2009

From The End Comes A New Beginning For Elvis & The Music On The 32nd Anniversary Of The King's Death

Its Official, Elvis Lives! John Krondes and the Elvis "Hit Making Team" took Memphis by surprise this week with the unexpected press conference and announcement of the release of THE END - A New Beginning during Elvis Week. The Media and Fans alike were stunned at the presentation of the first commercial release by the King's music entourage in 32 Years.

With the death of Elvis Presley in 1977 came the death of The "Memphis Sound" and the powerful music making operation that Presley assembled over a twenty year span. Ironically, THE END has become full circle; a New Beginning and Second Chance for the music to play on for Elvis.

Beginning with the beautiful new recording by John Krondes and the Jordanaires of "The End", the special song Elvis Presley sang to his future wife Priscilla Beaulieu in Germany, on the night they met, has now become the new lifeline that has brought his entire Hit Making Machine back to the studio, and thus recreated the "Memphis Sound."

After Ten Years in the making and numerous trips to recording studios all across America, just this week in Presley's hometown at the Peabody Hotel, John Krondes and the King's "Hit Team" unveiled a colossal CD of new music, with eerie similarities to the lost Presley style, and left cause for celebration for the return of the distinct Memphis Sound.

Following the 32nd Anniversary of Elvis Presley's death on August 16, 2009, next week will commence the shipping to radio stations, and other media worldwide of the epochal CD THE END - A New Beginning. The new release includes virtually anyone and everyone that played with Elvis. Joining John Krondes and the "Hit Team" in song are the American Studios Band - the "Memphis Boys" and the TCB Band. All of the Presley backing vocal groups add harmony to the new recordings, the roster includes: the Jordanaires, the Former Original Stamps, Imperials and Sweet Inspirations. The King's Star Drummers DJ Fontana, Gene Chrisman and Ronnie Tutt keep the beat along with the original Elvis Horn Section, and numerous other composers, arrangers and players that accompanied the King and helped create the celebrated Memphis Sound.

Stay tuned and ask your favorite radio station to play the new historic recordings by John Krondes and the Elvis "Hit Making Team". Radio stations all over the USA and Europe will be receiving the THE END - A New Beginning over the next few weeks.

Over the next couple of weeks, THE END - A New Beginning CD will be available for sale on numerous internet outlets such as Amazon.com. The single of THE END is available now at Amazon.com and other retailers. The very first internet retailer DigStation.com - www.digstation.com has the entire new album THE END - A New Beginning ready for download now. Please visit the official Hit Making Team website at www.hitmakingteam.com for updates and news on the timely music project.

Spectacularly, on the 32nd Anniversary, the dead-air is replaced with harmony, sadness is replaced with joy and hope, and death is interchanged with New Life and a rising spirit. Unexplainably, a new day has dawned, a dream of second chances has been transposed with reality; miraculously friends, the music fills the airwaves once again with the sweet melodious "Memphis Sound."

Elvis Presley’s death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique and irreplaceable. More than 20 years ago, he burst upon the scene with an impact that was unprecedented and will probably never be equaled. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense, and he was a symbol to people the world over of the vitality, rebelliousness, and good humor of his country.

In 1992 Wayne Newton filed for bankruptcy. He claimed he owed over 20 million in debt.

Here is one filed in the Ewww gross File, on this day in 1997 a pair of  Elvis Presley's Black underwear was stolen from a Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum in Los Angeles.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S DVD JUKEBOX

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S DVD JUKEBOX

MVD Visual and Sexy Intellectual are pleased to announce the home viewing release of Bruce Springsteen's DVD Jukebox for North American distribution on DVD.

It was more than 40 years ago that Bruce Springsteen began working as a professional musician and performer, but for over a decade prior to that he was developing his skills largely by listening, listening and listening again. He was listening to the records that not only infused his entire mind and body, but equally provided the guidance, inspiration and encouragement to achieve the extraordinary skills he has been honing to perfection in song-writing, musicianship and, some would say most crucially, performance ever since.

This 150 minute film traces the artistic root of Bruce Springsteen in a manner no documentary has ever attempted before, and in so doing shows the incredible influence the likes of Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Mitch Ryder, Van Morrison, Phil Spector, Pete Seeger and numerous others have had upon his muse. The film also looks at literary, political and other influences to provide a complete picture of the most potent inspirations Bruce ever stumbled upon.

Featuring rare footage of Springsteen and all of the featured artists, plus revealing archive interviews with The Boss himself, and brand new contributions from former E Street Band member
Vini Lopez, Springsteen drummer Gary Mallaber, the legendary Gary (US) Bonds,  History Professor and Folk Music expert Ronal D. Cohen, English Professor and author of It Ain't No Sin to be Glad You're Alive: The Promise of Bruce Springsteen, Eric Alterman, former editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone Anthony De Curtis, British music author and  biographer of Van Morrison, Johnny Rogan and many other colleagues, writers and historians.

In completion this film is both an academic look at Bruce Springsteen's artistic development and an entertaining and joyous celebration of his music and that of the artists he loved the most.

EXTRAS include:
Special Feature 1: Vini Loez on Bruce's very earliest influences;
Special Feature 2: 'Working for The Boss' with Gary Mallaber;
Illustrated Contributor Biographies

Massachusetts hard rockers ATR have toured all year in the US and Europe with bands like Slipknot and Disturbed in support of their latest release OVERCOME (which debuted at #16 on the Billboard Top 200 chart last September and has already sold over 180,000 copies).   ATR is coming off of a top 10 single (“Two Weeks”) at active rock radio and have recently gone to radio with a second single, “Forever in Your Hands” - streaming NOW on ATR’s official My Space page!

This summer the band is featured on both a special Alternative Press cover (attached) as well as the Mayhem Revolver Magazine cover with the likes of Manson, Slayer, and Killswitch Engage.

The band is a mainstay on Active Rock radio charts and their music videos are frequently played on MTV2, Fuse, and shows like Headbangers Ball.  Their music is enormously popular on both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 2 video games, resulting in over 100,000 additional individual track downloads.

Nick Oliveri Set To Release "Death Acoustic"

Impedance and MVD Audio are pleased to announce the release of Nick Oliveri - Death Acoustic for North American distribution on October 6, 2009.

http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102662774658&s=11306&e=001bHfaqFcVfcMV1xBOmgZhTpS3q55VtuXWHvstweQ54QoExsIqYZRIUmVCltPprBYuqmpSpKvTWpjaXYOTf40wJeDfNxftszzVdTXxgDWHZ_Pq-1UQhG4SM5D_QAm4LMoET08MJ4GNnUY=You may know him as the long haired bass player on the early Kyuss albums or as the mysterious Rex Everything in The Dwarves. Others will know him as one of the creative partners behind Queens Of The Stone Age an d more recently the screaming front man of Mondo Generator. He is of course, Nick Oliveri... A man that should need no introduction to rock fans across the world.

Starting his musical career as a teenager with some friends from Palm Desert, California,Oliveri played bass and wrote a number of songs on the first two albums of desert rock pioneers Kyuss. The band would go on to establish them as a cult band worldwide and ensure high interest in all the members' future projects.

One of those projects became Oliveri's most successful commercial venture; it was of course Queens Of The Stone Age. Alongside song writing partner Josh Homme, Oliveri played on and co-wrote the bands two most critically acclaimed and successful albums Rated R and Songs For The Deaf.

After a split with the band in 2004, he focused his energies on his own band Mondo Generator, while also being a part time member of The Dwarves and playing bass in the very occasional band Moistboyzalongside members of Ween and Butthole Surfers. Soon enough, he will also be a featured guest on the forthcoming solo album of Slash.

Throughout his career delivering audiences wild and loud rock shows with the aforementioned bands, Oliveri has found time to play intimate, solo acoustic shows. Just him and his guitar, blending songs he has written for the bands he has played in, specifically written songs for the solo shows, and well chosen covers. In this format he has further showcased what a great songwriter and musician he is.

Death Acoustic is the result of these efforts; Oliveri spent the last twelve months in his home studio recording tracks for his solo album. In October it is unleashed with touring to back it up across the world over the last few months of this year and into next year.

Track Listing: Start a Fight, Like the Sky, Dairy Queen, Gonna Leave You, Love Has Passed Me By, U Blow, Hybrid Moments, Unless I Can Kill, Follow Me, Outlaw Scumfuc

The United States Premier of "LAYS": 87 Poems by Depeche Mode's, Martin Gore at the Beat Museum in San Francisco

By   Fri, Aug 07, 2009

The United States Premier of "LAYS": 87 Poems by Depeche Mode's, Martin Gore at the Beat Museum in San Francisco

When fans of Martin Gore visit the Beat Museum in San Francisco between August 10-16, they will become part of a very important historical moment. The blending of two creative worlds who individually already count their members in the multi-millions. On the surface they couldn't seem further apart, but underneath where everything counts, share the strongest of bonds. Poetry. The United States premier of "LAYS" poems by Martin Gore translated into French by Jugurtha Harchaoui spans the epic career of one of the most influential poets of our generation.

With an achievement of this magnitude, together Martin Gore and Jugurtha Harchaoui have given a gift to millions of French readers and a deeper level of understanding to something they already love. And for this week, an added dimension of perception of what it may mean to be part of a beat generation; then and now. Subtleties of the emotionally charged words composed by Martin Gore require the touch of a poet to properly convey their power and presence. An effort and accomplishment as beautiful as this can only emanate from a labor of love. For this Jugurtha should take a bow.

Although most people are first exposed to the world of Martin Gore while getting sweaty on the dance floor, the words naked on the pages give the world of poets and readers everywhere a personal glimpse into one of the most legendary musicians of our time, without needing to hear the music. The words stand alone as works of art themselves and much more. Collectively, they compose a philosophy that has already been embraced by millions. One that the beats themselves embraced long before, and is often overlooked; living a life of enlightened individuality with others who share similar values.

Many fans from both worlds have chosen for themselves a life path to self discovery that lays far outside the mainstream of conventional thinking and emanates from a spiritual calling that is communicated to and through us all with words structured in poetic verse, prose and story. The philosophy that has evolved over the last three decades has already led millions into a life of compassion and lust, all while dancing to their own shared beats. When one Martin Gore fan meets another there is usually an instant connection and bond that doesn't need to be explained.

Prior to this particular tome, Martin Gore's lyrics were never released in the form of a book. The only songwriters who have received this honor from the 1960's or 1970's are Jim Morrison; Leonard Cohen; Bob Dylan; Joni Mitchell; Paul Simon; Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith. With over 60 million poems sold in one form or another , songs danced and mated to, records and babies made too, Martin Gore has earned the right to stand in the pantheon of human achievement as one of the most influential poets in world history. In everyone's beginning is a poem.

Depeche Mode fans everywhere are encouraged to call the Beat Museum and pre-order your copy of LAYS today. Unlike most museums who have a great deal of overhead, the Beat Museum funnels its revenue right back into the creative community through sponsoring events and endeavors that include all forms of art. When you buy a book from the Beat Museum in the quest to find yourself, you help another artist find their voice.

About the Beat Museum:
When you first walk through the doors of the museum you instantly know that you have finally found something authentic. Like the Beats themselves, the museum is in a constant state of change and growth ensuring every visit a unique and new learning experience.

Your Songs, the New Harry Connick Jr. Album, Available Tuesday, September 22

By   Fri, Aug 07, 2009

Your Songs, the New Harry Connick Jr. Album, Available Tuesday, September 22

Columbia Records recording artist, singer and pianist Harry Connick Jr., just barely out of his thirties, has released 24 albums under his own name, which have sold 25 million copies around the world. Although he has recorded various genres of music, from traditional pop to instrumental jazz to funk and blues, he has shown a deep and abiding affection for The Great American Songbook (and his own songs written in that classic style).

Connick's newest Columbia album, Your Songs, to be released on vinyl on August 25 and on CD September 22, both extends this tradition and compliments it. Like his best-selling Only You of 2004, Your Songs consists of Connick singing familiar songs with a full jazz big band and string orchestra, and, as with nearly all of Harry's previous albums, he wrote each of the orchestrations himself. (He also recruited two of his lifelong friends from New Orleans, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, as well as bluegrass guitar virtuoso Bryan Sutton, for guest appearances). On most of his albums, Connick is a virtual one-man band. "My usual pattern is I either write the songs or pick the songs," he says. "Depending on the configuration I arrange, orchestrate, conduct, sing, and then oversee the mixing and mastering. You might say that I'm very hands on."

However, what makes Your Songs different from all of Connick's previous projects is that this album represents the first occasion in which he has teamed up with a record company producer, the legendary Clive Davis. For nearly 50 years, Davis has been one of the leading lights of the music industry and more recently was promoted to Chief Creative Officer (CCO) at Sony Music Entertainment after heading the BMG Label Group.

Your Songs is a genuine collaborative effort in which Clive picked most of the songs, Harry arranged and orchestrated them, and then turned the reins in the studio over to his long time friend and producer, Tracey Freeman. "Clive expressed an interest in working with me," he recalls, "but I didn't know what that meant because I had never done a collaboration before."

Davis' concept was to put together a program of classic songs that were both as familiar and as contemporary as possible. Both by accident and design, the selections are skewed towards signature songs for iconic performers: Elvis Presley's "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You," Nat King Cole's "Mona Lisa," Tony Bennett's "Who Can I Turn To?," Frank Sinatra's "All The Way," Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" and nine others. "Songs that everybody knows," was how Davis put it, rendered with what he describes as "accessible arrangements."

When Davis first approached him, Harry's initial idea was to bring in a famous arranger but Davis suggested that Harry write the charts himself. Even so, the finished results would reflect the producer's own strong pop sensibilities.

The opener "All The Way" is more intimate and lighter than we're used to hearing, with a beautiful tenor saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis. "And I Love Her" uses a hint of a bolero underpinning to make the Lennon-McCartney classic seem even more romantic than when sung by The Beatles. "The Way You Look Tonight" has been heard for most of the last 70 years as an uptempo swinger, but Harry brings it back to its original status as a slow and intimate love song. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was originally written by Ewan MacColl in the style of an Olde English folk song, then it was reborn as a 70s pop hit, but Connick sings it as a classic Broadway style love song, very emotionally direct, with his heart right on his sleeve. Elton John's "Your Song" is herewith given a finger-snapping beat.

For Burt Bacharach's "Close to You," which features the brilliant New Orleans trumpeter Leroy Jones, Connick notes, "I went in the studio, and I just started playing, and I wound up giving it a whole different groove. I kept the tempo, and I had a guitar play the famous intro vamp, and overall we gave 'Close To You' more of a Gospel feeling." Likewise, he added more of a jazz beat to Billy Joel's all-time classic, "Just The Way You Are."

The immortal Mexican love song "Besame Mucho" was done at the suggestion of Harry's father. "Mona Lisa" is treated more like a dance number than is customarily heard, while "Smile," which is usually done as a minor key lament, is also much more cheerful and upbeat. Harry starred in the acclaimed ABC TV film of South Pacific, but the show's great love song, "Some Enchanted Evening," was the property of another character; Harry makes up for that here by romping through a solid-four reading of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic.

"Who Can I Turn To" is dedicated to the song's composer, the late, great British singer-songwriter Anthony Newley. Don McLean's "And I Love You So," is unique in the annals of American pop in that it was a big number for both Perry Como and Elvis Presley; Connick sings it with a straightforward sincerity. Connick recruited Wynton Marsalis to play on "Can't Help Falling In Love." "I asked him to play the melody on an Elvis Presley tune. And he said, 'I get it! No problem.' But it wasn't a waste of his time because he played it perfectly, in a way that a lesser musician couldn't have done."

When Harry talks about the beauty of playing or singing a melody as simply and beautifully as possible, he's getting to the essential truth of what makes this album special. To be able to take familiar songs and make something fresh out of them - without eviscerating the qualities that make them great to begin with - is truly a rare gift. And it's a gift that Harry Connick, Jr. displays in abundance on Your Songs, making it one of the extraordinary efforts of his career.

ALL TIME LOW STRIP DOWN AND BARE ALL FOR MTV UNPLUGGED

Baltimore pop-punk band All Time Low recently stripped down their songs to just an essential heart beat, exclusively for MTV Unplugged. The  performance was shot in New York City, and had the band take their high-energy performance down a notch in the candle-lit studio for some very fortunate fans who intently sung along. Watch All Time Low play two new songs off their latest album Nothing Personal, “Damned If I Do Ya, Damned If I Don’t” and “Weightless”. Also don’t miss live performances from their previous releases "So Wrong ,It's Right" and "Put Up Or Shut Up" including “Dear Maria, Count Me In,” “Coffee Shop Soundtrack,” “Jasey Rae” and a surprise duet with Kate Voegele on “Remembering Sunday.”

You can catch the clips on air on MTV or watch them online at MTV.com.

Watch the performance here: http://www.mtv.com/music/unplugged/

All Time Low’s new record, Nothing Personal, debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, selling a career high 62,992 records in its first week. This is the band’s highest chart position to date, showing tremendous growth over their 2007 debut full length So Wrong, It's Right, which debuted at #62 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

All Time Low is currently out on this summer's Vans Warped Tour heating up the Main Stage. Make sure to catch them this Fall on the Glamour Kills Tour, joined by We The Kings, Hey Monday, and The Friday Night Boys. More details and dates to be announced soon!

ANDREAS KISSER Releases First Solo Album

By   Sat, Aug 01, 2009

ANDREAS KISSER Releases First Solo Album

Beloved guitar shredder Andreas Kisser of the legendary Brazilian metal band Sepultura releases his first solo project HUBRIS I&II on Mascot Records. This double album project will only be available as an import online or on iTunes as a download.

Since the release of “Roots” (1996) and the consecration of Sepultura, the world was introduced to a new form of metal guitar playing. Mixing blinding riffs, strong pounding rhythms, and clear & expressive tones, Andreas Kisser had created something very new. We named this style, ‘root guitar’, and it found its way around the world, having a transforming influence on much of the 90’s metal scene. It’s style & technique can be seen in what is now called ‘New Metal’ (or Nu Metal).

Just to clarify, Andreas Kisser is happy in Sepultura, with the same intensity and passion as always and has no intentions of leaving the band. However, he felt it was time to expand his horizons & the different challenges that lay in front of him. His first solo album release is called, “HUBRIS I & II”. Going beyond the usual ‘noise’, the album demonstrates influence of metal, musical education & disciplines, MPB (Brazilian popular music) and even “repente” (a form of improvisation, a style of music born in the streets of the Brazilian Northeast region). & all the while doing this without losing what is truly important: its musical identity.

There are 21 tracks divided into two volumes: a heavy side & the other less intense. The majority of the well-guarded ideas come from demons. “After Max Cavalera left Sepultura, I started to compose melodies while never reaching a completed song.” explains the Brazilian guitarist. HUBRIS I & II is a finalization of what I have written since 1997.” Despite this obvious contrast, the album as a whole has consistency & unity.

HUBRIS I

Here we have an interesting collaboration of tuning between guitar, bas & drums. The sound carries the ‘root’ feeling so familiar in his sound, its intensity only comparable to a high voltage shock. IN respect to the compositions, from the start there are varied surprises. From the introduction of the Brazilian ten string acoustic guitar called, “viola caipira” alongside the electric guitar and then quickly letting the listener know what is to come. And that is exactly what happens, as told by the guitarist: “This is a guitar record with an emphasis on tones. Although there are some solos, I preferred to work on the ambiances, almost as if I was doing a soundtrack for a movie.”

HUBRIS II

In general HUBRIS II keeps the nuances a little a little more daring. This will probably be the record that will surprise the public more accustomed to Sepultura. A fair part of the songs is instrumental, in which the big connection between them is the acoustic guitar as the protagonist. Yet Andreas advises: “This isn’t strictly an ‘unplugged’ record, with just acoustic elements. It has electric guitars, of course!” Who would think that Andreas could resist the temptation?

HUBRIS I & II brings to us the Andreas Kisser, exposed: the multiple sides as a musician, composer, arranger and producer. We can see all the various facets of this great guitarist, who has taught us where the root guitar comes from, as well as its origins and more importantly, what it spawned from Sepultura. Influences and identity collide in endless eclecticism, yet all of it comes from a strong point of view & common sense. This Andreas Kisser’s first solo project in his career, yet his story has just begun…

ROB ZOMBIE’S HALLOWEEN II Soundtrack Features New Recordings

By   Fri, Jul 31, 2009

ROB ZOMBIE’S HALLOWEEN II Soundtrack Features New Recordings

Following the success of Rob Zombie’s initial reinvention of John Carpenter’s smash cult horror film HALLOWEEN which premiered number one at the box office breaking all Labor Day Weekend 2007 records, comes the sequel, HALLOWEEN II, hitting theatres nationwide on August 28, 2009 from Dimension Films.

With the enormously popular horror movie series back, writer-producer-director Rob Zombie, once again puts his own twisted twist on the soundtrack.  Halloween II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Hip-O/UMe), released August 25, 2009, and co-produced by Zombie, manages to bring together dialogue from the film as well as music from Motorhead, The Moody Blues, Scream (sans future member Dave Grohl), Rod Stewart, the MC5 and Foghat, alongside new psychobilly band Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.

Frightmaster Zombie helmed 2007’s ninth installment in the HALLOWEEN franchise that began in 1978.  HALLOWEEN II, which debuts August 28, picks up where HALLOWEEN left off, and focuses on the struggles of Laurie Strode (played by Scout Taylor-Compton) and killer Michael Myers (played by Tyler Mane).

The new recordings on Halloween II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack include “Transylvania Terror Train” and “Honky Tonk Halloween” from Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures, who appear in the film.  The band’s leader, Jesse Dayton, an Austin, Texas-based singer-guitarist who has played with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson, was part of the duo Banjo & Sullivan that performed in Zombie’s 2005 flick The Devil’s Rejects and simultaneously released an album.  Similarly, Rob Zombie Presents Captain Clegg And The Night Creatures (Stag/Zombie A Go Go) will be issued August 28.

Also new are “Laurie’s Theme” from John 5 produced by Bob Marlette, (Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne); “Nurse Killa” from score composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Halloween, The Devil’s Rejects); and a cover of Nazareth’s 1976 hit “Love Hurts” from singer Nan Vernon, who covered “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and “Mr. Sandman” for HALLOWEEN.

The classic tracks range from The Moody Blues’ 1966 psychedelic gem “Nights In White Satin” and 10cc’s cheery 1977 hit “The Things We Do For Love” to Rod Stewart’s 1972 cover of The Temptations’ “(I Know) I’m Losing You,” Foghat’s 1972 take on Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want To Make Love To You” and the MC5 proto-punk masterpiece “Kick Out The Jams,” which was recorded live in Detroit on Devil’s Night/Halloween 1968.  The lesser-known vintage tracks hail from the early ‘80s: “Amerarockers” by hardcore punkers Scream, “The Chase Is Better Than The Catch” by metal’s Motorhead and “Time To Die” by hardcore/metal band Void.

Prior to entering the film world, hard rocker Zombie scored a series of multiplatinum albums--1992’s La Sexorcisto, 1995’s Astro-Creep: 2000, and 1998’s Hellbilly Deluxe --as well as platinum with 2001’s The Sinister Urge and 2003’s greatest hits collection Past, Present & Future.

In addition to his recording career, Rob Zombie has written and directed several successful feature films including House of 1000 Corpses, the sequel, The Devil’s Rejects, and is the is the producer, writer and director of the forthcoming animated film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, based on his comic book series, The Adventures of El Superbeasto.

MACHINES OF GRACE TURN HEADS EARLY WITH STRONG RADIO SHOWING!

By   Thu, Jul 30, 2009

MACHINES OF GRACE TURN HEADS EARLY WITH STRONG RADIO SHOWING!
On the strength of their self-titled debut, melodic metallists Machines of Grace are steadily assaulting rock radio. In less than a month (the group’s debut was issued on July 7th), the group landed at #4 on FMQB ‘most added’ chart, with 34 adds (debut 50 bullet with 41 spins) and was #3 on CMJ’s ‘most added’ chart, with 48 adds. Machines of Grace has also enjoyed a strong showing on radio stations throughout the U.S., including such heavy hitters as Austin’s KROX, Los Angeles’ FMJ, Kansas City’s KKFI, and Chicago’s WKTA, among countless others. With such an incredible early radio buzz, the list of radio adds will surely only grow larger.

Managing to both pay tribute to their metal forefathers while also keeping a modern hard rock edge, the Boston-based quartet is one of the few currents acts that will appeal to both factions. Their self-titled debut certainly proves this, as evidenced by such white hot/melodic rockers as “Just A Game,” “Psychotic,” and “Fly Away.” Comprised of band members Zak Stevens (vocals, whose credits include Circle II Circle, Savatage), Matt Leff (guitars), Chris Rapoza (bass), and Jeff Plate (drums, whose credits include Trans Siberian Orchestra, Savatage, Metal Church), the album was mixed by renowned studio expert Paul David Hagar (who has worked over the years with acts such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Avril Lavigne, Pink, and Tracy Bonham).

“I’d say we’re a mix of melodic metal, hard rock, modern rock and acoustic rock,” explains Leff. “The current rock climate is calling for modern production, strong vocal melodies and memorable songs from guys that can really play. I think we fit that description.” Plate tops off the sentiment: “The music is metal, but not thrash. Rock, but not pop. We could be compared to a number of different bands, and each song will give you a different impression, but in the end the sound is distinctly Machines of Grace.”

Machines of Grace has also garnered glowing reviews from such esteemed online music sources as BraveWords.com (who describe the group as "A throwback to a simpler time when the almighty riff and strong melody lines ruled a la Badlands, Brother Cane and Tangier; raucous, groove-ridden soul to the max") and All Music Guide (who raved “Machines of Grace do possess an unmistakable '80s flair about them - but with a much more succinct and mainstream rock-based songwriting style”). Give the self-titled debut by Machines of Grace a spin to truly understand what all the early buzz is about.

Methods of Mayhem have found a new home with Loud & Proud

The star studded brainchild of Tommy Lee is currently finishing album production with producer Scott Humphrey (Rob Zombie, Nine Inch Nails, Motley Crüe). The new album will be Methods of Mayhem’s first release since their 1999 self-titled debut. Album is due out worldwide in early 2010.

Lee exclaimed, “I’m so f@&*ing pumped!! I’ve signed with my friends at Loud & Proud / Roadrunner…what a perfect home for my second Methods of Mayhem record. We’re about to do what no team has ever done before. Buckle up and hang on kids!”

“Some artists put it on cruise control once they achieve success. And then there are rock stars like Tommy Lee. He works hard, plays hard and always looks to challenge himself and his audience. His second Methods of Mayhem record is going to shake things up once again.” says Tom Lipsky, President of Loud & Proud Records.

Methods of Mayhem broke onto the scene in 1999 with their self-titled debut, which went on to become RIAA Gold certified. The album featured Snoop Dog, Kid Rock and Fred Durst among others. The band was a main force of Ozzfest 2000.

Lee is currently headlining Crüefest II with his band Motley Crüe.

"Woodstock Diary 1969: Friday Saturday Sunday"

"Woodstock Diary 1969: Friday Saturday Sunday"

MVD Visual and Wienerworld are pleased to announce the release of Woodstock Diary 1969: Friday Saturday Sunday for North American distribution on September 22, 2009. Directed and filmed by D.A. Pennebaker, and produced by Alan Douglas (who actually shot Woodstock), this is a 180-minute blast from the past.

August 15th 1969 was a day that went down in popular music culture when nearly 500,000 people descended on the infamous site of Woodstock to listen to 26 now-legendary artists over a 3 day period.

Woodstock Diary 1969: Friday Saturday Sunday, featuring electrifying live footage performances of many of the bands and performers who appeared, is an enthralling "fly on the wall" documentary examining the creation of Woodstock, on its fortieth anniversary and of the actual three day event itself. It contains drama, humor, and even pathos, and recaptures those heady days of the hippie movement when young people really believed that they could change the world.

And yet incredibly this historic event almost never happened. A series of near-catastrophes conspired to derail the Woodstock Festival and but for the sheer perseverance and chutzpah of several key characters, the whole course of rock music could have been drastically different.

Woodstock Diary 1969: Friday Saturday Sunday features appearances from The Who with 'My Generation', Janis Joplin giving a heart-stopping rendition of "Ball & Chain", Arlo Guthrie performing Dylan's "Walking Down The Line" and Tim Hardin's tender reading of his own classic song "If I Were A Carpenter".

Richie Havens, Sha Na Na, Incredible String Band, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Johnny Winter, Crosby Stills & Nash, Jo Cocker, Country Joe and The Fish and Jimi Hendrix also turn in classic performances which have ensured that, while there have been subsequent attempts to imitate the event, the original electrifying Woodstock Festival has never been emulated.

RISE RECORDS CONFIRMS OVER 500 CONCERTS BOOKED FOR ITS ARTISTS THE REMAINDER OF 2009

RISE RECORDS CONFIRMS OVER 500 CONCERTS BOOKED FOR ITS ARTISTS THE REMAINDER OF 2009

RISE RECORDS, the label founded in 1991 by Craig Ericson, has confirmed bookings of over 500 shows for its artists for the rest of 2009. The label, which was shelved while Ericson attended college, began releasing loud, in-your-face music once again in 2000. Over the last two years, RISE has seen every one of its releases chart among the Top Indie 200.

Miss May I, a hardcore/metal band out of Troy, Ohio, recently debuted at #66 on the Indie Charts and at #29 on the Heatseeker Chart.

Meanwhile, the label's Attack Attack!, which hails from Columbus, Ohio, has been tearing it up all summer long on the Vans Warped Tour and has sold nearly 50,000 units since November. Label mates Dance Gavin Dance just wrapped up its time on the annual summer juggernaut just in time to hit the road on the "Squash the Beef Tour" with RISE'S Emarosa, Of Mice & Men, Tides of Man, and Of Machines. That tour, guaranteed to decimate everything in its path, runs from September 16 - October 19.

RISE is extremely excited to announce the signing of Southern California's Bleeding Through. The band, celebrating its 10-year anniversary next month with a West Coast tour, will head into the studio in early 2010.

RISE is also proud to welcome The Color Morale to the family. The Rockford, IL band will see its debut release We All Have Demons (produced by Joey Sturgis whose credits include TDWP, For The Fallen Dreams, Attack Attack!) in stores September 1.

This fall will also see the solo debut from Emarosa frontman Jonny Craig. His release, a side project venture away from the band, is more Johnny Cash than what fans are accustomed to.

With plenty going on, RISE, a label that's home to 21 acts as well as one solo artist, will soon be starting a brand new street team. Fans interested in joining should email adam@riserecords.com  and submit their name, address, email and age.

Return to Woodstock: A 40th Anniversary Celebration with the Creator of the Poster that Rocked a Generation

Return to Woodstock: A 40th Anniversary Celebration with the Creator of the Poster that Rocked a Generation

International Poster Gallery announces an extraordinary event with Arnold Skolnick, designer of the iconic 1969 Woodstock poster, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Woodstock Festival. Mr. Skolnick will be on hand at the Gallery to sign both original Woodstock posters and a new original limited edition poster created by the artist for the 40th anniversary. The new poster is a time capsule in and of itself and cleverly references the original poster as well as the era of psychedelic posters in a modern way.

The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place at International Poster Gallery, 205 Newbury Street in Boston, on Thursday, August 6th from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, and will feature a talk by Mr. Skolnick at 6:00pm. RSVPs are requested at Woodstock(at)InternationalPoster(dot)com. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday noon to 6 pm. Call (617) 375-0076 or visit http://www.InternationalPoster.com for information.

Skolnick's Woodstock poster played an essential role in the success of the largest rock festival of the Sixties, an event that was as famous for its freedom from violence as it was for its unparalleled musical line-up. The poster perfectly expressed in one symbol - a dove perched on a guitar - what Woodstock was about. Despite the need for lengthy text, the poster was graphically succinct and struck an enduring chord with a generation and indeed the world.

The poster's text is also a treasure trove of juicy memorabilia - the $18 3-day ticket price, the list of performers from Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joan Baez and many others, as well as "dozens of curious food and fruit combinations to experiment with".

The original poster was no accident. Skolnick was a talented Madison Avenue advertising director and was skilled at hearing what a customer wanted and needed. Mr. Skolnick recalls, "The client said he wanted the event to be 'peaceful, three days long and a lot of music' so that's what I gave him." His design was the perfect solution to a licensing problem that required the festival to be relocated at the last moment from Walkill to Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. The psychedelic and countercultural tone of the aborted venue's initial poster was replaced by a more subdued and peaceful message so the event would not be banned again-- thus creating a unique rock poster for the ages.

Jim Lapides, owner of International Poster Gallery, comments: "Little did I know last year that finding some original Woodstock posters would lead to one of the most exciting events anywhere of the 40th Anniversary Woodstock celebration. We have a front row seat to hear how the greatest rock festival came to be from the man who created the 'face of the event'. I can assure you that Arnold's insight and homespun sense of humor will make for a very memorable evening."

Last year, International Poster Gallery acquired a small cache of original Woodstock posters. These authentic 1969 posters will be available for signing by Mr. Skolnick at the gallery. The artist has also created a beautifully printed 40th Anniversary silkscreen especially for this event, printed in a limited edition of 285 signed and numbered posters. It is offered at the event for $200 and thereafter for $300. This poster is exclusively available through International Poster Gallery and cannot be acquired elsewhere.

In addition to gallery shows and special events, IPG's award-winning website, http://www.InternationalPoster.com offers the largest, most comprehensive online collection of fine vintage advertising posters in the world. Originally launched in 1998, the site now contains nearly 5,000 images accessible through a powerful search engine.
