Why can't it be easy
Well, another new year is upon us, and I hope that THIS year is better for everyone than LAST year was. BUT, talking about 2009 is not why I'm here typing away. I'm about to unleash a frustration into written word, and it may not seem like a big deal to some, but I have a tendency to overcomplicate things.
When I started the This Day In Rock column, I thought that it would be easy breazy to find facts about different rock artists, and boy was I hitting a little high and to the right of that target. I have found a couple of good web sites to use for sources, BUT they tend to cover more the classic rock scene. And if you've actually read any of my articles, you'll know that I'm a big fan of classic rock. HOWEVER, metal runs through these veins as well....and I've been doing a lot of engine searches to try to find more facts about metal bands/artists to hightlight, spotlight, however you want to put it, into the This Day In Rock scene. I mean, I enjoy reading stuff about the Beatles, but I'm feeling like I'm writing a book on them as it seems that every other day or so there's a fact about them hanging around. That's well and good, but what happened with say, Judas Priest or Skid Row, or Megadeath on this day in rock? What happened on this day in the battle of the Hair Bands back in the 80's?
I have been doing search after search and I'm coming up empty, and it's extremely frustrating, you have NO idea. When I saw that there was another Beatle fact for today, I actually whined and squinted my eyes shut. I want to highlight my METAL!!! Not just a lil something here and there, but everyday, I wanna see a metal factiod in my writing. I mean, come on, I was the Heavy Metal Queen in high school. I looked goth before it was a fashion term. I never dated guys with short hair. I was considered WEIRD...oh, wait, I still am, but I think you get my point.
So what does any of this have to do with YOU???? Simple. IF you can track down a website that provides metal infromation of historic content (ya know, something with exact dates) OR have a better way of searching that I seem to have, PLEASSSSSSE (that's me begging) hook me up with a link or search topic, so that I can add a little more metal to your daily diet. I will continue on in my search in the hopes of making This Day In Rock shriek if it even gets anywhere close to a metal detector.
Oh, and Happy 2009.......
