My Review For Chickenfoot's Self Titled Debut

By   Sat, Jun 06, 2009

Chickenfoot? What type of name is that??

Well it may not be a good name but the supergroup rocks!

Their members a well known

Vocals-"The Red Rocker" Sammy Hagar(Van Halen,Solo)

Guitar-Joe Satriani(Solo,Grammy Award Winning Guitarist)

Bass-Michael Anthony(Van Halen)

Drums-Chad Smith(Red Hot Chili Peppers)

11 Track are on the Cd Version And 12 Tracks are on the Vinyl Version.

I will be reviewing the Album track by track

Avenida Revolucion-The intro to the song is just shredding from Satriani,Then in comes Sammy Hagar "Hey You!" Very heavy and solid track and a great opener to the Album. Sammy's voice is very over-powering in this song and you can't hear the background vocals from Mikey too much. Either way a solid track! 4/5

Soap On A Rope- Song starts with a very familiar riff which I can't think of at the moment. I absolutely love this song! It feels like your listening to Van Hagar because you hear the Background Vocals from Michael Anthony really good and his vocals were a main part to the chorus's to Van Halen. Very Good solo from Satriani on this song 5/5

Sexy Little Thing-Very Dirty Song if you listen to the song closely. Isn't one of the best songs on the album. I find it to be very cliche just because of the name and its lyrics. Alot of repitition in it but it reminds me of old Van Hagar also. 2.5/5

Oh Yeah-The First Single from the Album. The riff sounds like the Red Hot Chili Peppers Song "Can't Stop" OH YEAH!!! this song is really kickin'! It was a great choice for First Single I Believe. It does sound like a Chili Peppers Recycled Song. 3.5/5

Runnin' Out-Meh this song just doesn't strike me as a good song. Much slower than the other songs, only thing this song has going for it is a "Kick Ass" guitar solo. Other than that nothing great about this song. 2/5

Get It Up-Song starts out with a chant "GET IT UP!!" The whole band pretty much is singing together on this one which sounds really cool to me. The Chorus is Just Hagar Saying "Get It Up!! Ariba, Ariba!!" Found that very funny. I like this song alot, very catchy and very cool. 4/5

Down The Drain-"Is That That New Thing Joe?" You hear Hagar ask Satriani. The Guitar on this song is solid! I Love It the most on this song. This song sounds like a combo of everyone's band in it! Van Halen,Satch,Chili Peppers, and Hagar. Very good song! 4/5

My Kinda Girl- Song about a girl who is dirty. Pretty much another expected and cliche song about some chick. Don't care for songs like these, Plus it sounds like a throw away Van Hagar Song to me. Didn't impress me at all with this song. 2/5

Learning To Fall-The ONLY ballad on this album. Its a good deep love song which isn't what I'd expect from any of these guys except Sammy. But I prefer it over alot of ballads from other bands. The guitar solo is pretty kick ass if I do say so myself. 3/5

Turnin' Left-An upbeat Guitar and Drums to start the song off which sounds good. In this song you can hear the Van Halen Background vocals from Michael again which is another great part of those songs. Another kick ass solo and very good drumming from Chad Smith(he doesn't get enough credit). Not a song with alot of repitition which alot of these songs do have. Great song, another one of my favorites from the album. 4/5

Future In The Past-Song sounds like its about to be another ballad until BAM it hits into a kick ass rock song. You hear some type of keyboard in this song which isn't in any of the other songs. A really good closer to the album and is the longest song on the album. The tempos change alot in the song you'll get ballad, rock, egyptian type sounds. Best guitar Work and singing on the album! None than less another favorite of mine! 5/5

Overall this album is really good despite the couple of songs on here. Every song has that guitar solo that just rocks your mind from Satriani, Then the howling and screams of Sammy Hagar whom which I've always disliked but on this album he impresses me alot! The bumping bass and drumming from Michael Anthony and Chad Smith is just awesome.

A definite buy for any rock fan of these guys!

Overall grade is 4/5
